Transwarp Starship Design

Some nice ships in this thread...

The NX 1900 needs to be smoothed a bit, re-skinned in white. Other than that I like it.

The Venture is nice too... Huge ship is huge. I could tolerate either of them onscreen in a new movie.

Kaiser,

Buetiful ship design :) :techman:

Yeah, Mr. Samuelson is an excellent graphic artist

Flashover,

Yeah, I think the design that Samuelson cooked up was a little too large actually

I could tolerate either of them onscreen in a new movie.

You would have to clear that with him as it is his design

Time Lord 1010,

Cuttingedge100's ship is in my opinion what JJ Abrams Enterprise should have looked like.

I didn't design the ship, I'm just using it as a simple baseline of what I'm looking for. The final design will look quite different in a number of ways.

There was this artist named Josh Samuelson who made a ship design called the USS Venture. It looks pretty close to what I'm looking for, though not exactly.

The nacelles are too close together for one, and I'd want to reshape the front-cap to cover the whole front section of the nacelle; the saucer was ovalized, and on the flanks of the saucer at about mid-length, it had these unsightly clipped/notched sections; I prefer the shape of the Sovereign's aft-saucer/forward-upper engineering-hull (you know, the hump-back shaped area where the shuttlebay in the saucer is located?); I think it might be desirable to lengthen the engineering hull a little bit as well and re-shape the shuttle-bay into a configuration similar to the Sovereign-Class; I initially was inspired by the idea of an aft-swept pylon, though now that I look at this design, I could go either way, I don't like the curvature of the pylons though.

These are the pictures of Josh Samuelson's design for reference purposes.

The nacelles are too big.

The only view that works in is the front view.
The top view looks like a squid
The side view looks the least akward.

Reduce the size of the engines allowing for more substantial pylon support and moves the pylones directly under the engines.

The nacelles are too big...

Yeah, that's what SHE said!

But seriously, although I think the ship is much too big, I think her lines are spectacular. The nacelles are closer than I would have put them - but this isn't my design. Taken on it's own terms, I think it works.

If the windows were made bigger to make the ship looks smaller, that's all I think she'd need to be one of my all-time favorites.

They're too close because it's a JJ-verse thing. All JJ-verse Starfleet designs have to look like a hand tool in the dorsal view.

That's why his design is a miss in my book.
Frankly it's amazing that NASA and designs are so well balanced and proportioned. It's not needed in space yet we still build in proportional cubits. That's the oddity of JJ's Design, spindly, bulbous and ill proportioned.

One of the biggest complaints when it came out was that it looked...like a characterization of the the TMP ship as though sketch artist exaggerated the look.

NASA's designs are well-proportioned because they're a bunch of penises.

Except ISS. But it's all lop-sided now, so-

Herkimer Jitty,

They're too close because it's a JJ-verse thing. All JJ-verse Starfleet designs have to look like a hand tool in the dorsal view.

Well yes, but I have stated that I would want to move the nacelles farther apart...

^NASA designs? like what?

ISS.
Skylab
particularlly their concept designs for the Fussion Rocket ships that appear in much of the artwork.

Skylab!?! well proportioned!?!?

Definitely.

Well yes, but I have stated that I would want to move the nacelles farther apart...

If you simply just placed the engines farther apart then I would change the Pylong arrangement for a two angle 30 degree pylon from the Secondary Hull meeting a 90 degree pylon from directly bellow the nacelle.

I really like the Venture-class design... too bad JJ Abrams couldn't have used it as the Enterprise in Star Trek. The only tweak I'd make is moving the nacelles further apart.

BillJ,

Well, I do intend to make some modifications to the design, luckily I bought some tracing paper and can probably start with my own ideas soon (This drawing isn't created by me, but is simply an illustration of the basic idea I'm going for)

I got myself some tracing paper to help illustrate my points (I didn't just suddenly improve in artistic skill overnight). Please note the revised nacelle, and the dotted lines.

Basically the area within the dotted-lines are what I'm predominantly focusing on now. Firstly, the saucer now looks a bit more like the Sovereign-class than before, the bridge dome is re-designed. I have omitted the impulse-engines for the time being.

The nacelles I cleaned up from before. Clearly Mr. Samuelson's design is a good inspiration, but I don't like every aspect of it and am using it simply as a basis for a new concept.

I don't know if anybody is available, but it would be helpful if somebody could at least make a side-view line-drawing of the saucer, neck, and forward secondary hull (the area within the dotted line) as well as the new nacelle shape.
