Transwarp Starship Design

Firstly: If I knew how to draw what I wanted, I'd have just drawn it myself. Do you think I'd be making requests like this if I could?

Yes.

It is reasonable that you could draw rough sketches to communicate your ideas. The good artists here seem to have good imaginations, and would quickly "get it".

If I remember your first post, you asked for help with ideas to help flesh out your thoughts for a new transwarp starship you were designing. You rather made it sound like you had some ideas yourself. Being the 'art' section and not the technical discussion section it seems reasonable to expect you would be trying to produce art from this. If you have no intention of even trying to draw or make something, and you're actually here fishing for someone to design and build you a complete 3D starship or 2D design for you, that's another thing entirely.

Erifah,

I was honestly under the impression that the descriptions I used were good enough until Patrickivan started drawing an Ambassador-class design.

Bloody Hell, how large would an Excelsior be in Nu Trek?!

Do you have a size in mind? I'm only being partly facetious here when I say if you're going nu trek, this ship would have to be as large as a Romulan Warbird...

If someone where to flesh out a Nu Trek Excelsior, I'd vote for MadMan to take a shot at it.

Didnt he already with the....

Looks like a NuTrek Excelsior to me :) :techman:

Now id pay cash $ to have my last design 3D'ed by him :)
Hey, sorry I missed being mentioned. :)

That ship was a very old one I did, that got adopted by an RPG group... I built that right after my V3 Enterprise, so I was very limited in what I could do. :)

I'll have to hunt down that design you were talking about...

You know what they say: "a picture is worth a thousand words."

Even if it is a very rough picture or sketch.

(In fact, I'd say, the rougher the better - you want to make these uppity lazy-bum artists WORK once in a while!):guffaw:

Erifah,

I'll prepare a rough sketch. I should have it ready today or tomorrow. I don't think it'll look too good but I'm pretty sure I can at least get a silhouette

its the Fifi La Fume one :) just look for Loony in the thread title and thank you :)

I tried drawing a silhouette, I can't do anything of purpose, but I can get a saucer design, though it isn't much different than the Excelsior.

I was thinking of some kind of a Transwarp-capable vessel, which is kind of a parallel-universe Excelsior-like vessel. It's not quite as far from Star Trek as "Nu-Trek", but it's somewhere between Old-Trek, and Nu-Trek.

So far, I'm just in the conceptualizing stage. The basic idea I'm looking for is a design that's like the Sovereign-Class, with some Excelsior and a little bit of Nu-Enterprise mixed in.

Anybody have any additional ideas?

Gee- sorry I derailed your thread with my nothing like an ambassador class...

You asked for excelsior/ nu trek/ sovereign... So I mistakenly provided a model built with a round excelsior saucer blended into an excelsior engineering hull (very similar to the E-E), with stylized warp nacelles, quite similar in fashion to the Nu-E...

But you're now looking for a sovereign with a circular hull and Nu-E nacelles? Why didn't you just say so?

Patrickivan,

I'm sorry I snapped, and acted so short with you. That wasn't right

But you're now looking for a sovereign with a circular hull and Nu-E nacelles? Why didn't you just say so?

Technically I sort of did. On the first page, on post #14 I did state that I wanted the design to possess a circular primary hull similar to the Excelsior and Sovereign-Class, a secondary-hull similar to the Sovereign-class, engine pylons similar to the Sovereign-class (i.e. V-shaped), a neck similar to the Sovereign-class and Ambassador-Class (The back of the neck is fine on the Sovereign-class, but having a thinner neck at the front is why I specified the Ambassador class as it was thinner and sharper than the Excelsior) without grilles on the neck, and centerline impulse engines in roughly the same spot as the Sovereign-class has it's saucer-mounted shuttle-bay. I never specified the nacelles though as I hadn't completely thought that one through, but it probably would have a mix of Sovereign-Class and Nu-Enterprise characteristics though.

This starship frightens me. We should leave this evil place!

That mess is ugly. Takes after the JJ Prise is all the wrong ways...

But it's beautifully rendered.

Neat ships IMO especially the USS Venture Star and USS Ascension as to Patrickivan's ship do you have a larger version to look at.
other than that both artists have the right idea on what CuttingEdge100 was looking for,and I for one don't have the talent for 3d design, but can spot talent when I see it.
That's all for now.

I wouldn't say that I have talent as per the ability to click a mouse key. That said, you can see larger images on my wordpress site. Where it's all that's left of my work after loosing everything on my computer.

You'll have to sift through all the pages of my bitching though. ;)

There was this artist named Josh Samuelson who made a ship design called the USS Venture. It looks pretty close to what I'm looking for, though not exactly.

The nacelles are too close together for one, and I'd want to reshape the front-cap to cover the whole front section of the nacelle; the saucer was ovalized, and on the flanks of the saucer at about mid-length, it had these unsightly clipped/notched sections; I prefer the shape of the Sovereign's aft-saucer/forward-upper engineering-hull (you know, the hump-back shaped area where the shuttlebay in the saucer is located?); I think it might be desirable to lengthen the engineering hull a little bit as well and re-shape the shuttle-bay into a configuration similar to the Sovereign-Class; I initially was inspired by the idea of an aft-swept pylon, though now that I look at this design, I could go either way, I don't like the curvature of the pylons though.

These are the pictures of Josh Samuelson's design for reference purposes.
