Transitional Uniforms between TMP and TWOK designs

While not a TMP to TWOK transition I did make a TOS to TMP transition mockup I'm very proud of.

Phenomenal work.......The TMP sets look amazing with the old style uniforms, and god, that red door!!! :D

I kinda like the Spock one. The collars definitely help.

The yellow clashes with Scotty pretty hard. I would have kept him in red, but I think the idea may have been, command gold for the two commanders, and a transitionary red for the Admiralty, maybe?

That's not Decker in that first pic. It's a random crewman. The idea was I was using their respective under shirt color in the TWOK-TUC uniforms. In some movies Scotty had a yellow undershirt on when he was wearing a standard monster maroon but wore white when he was just in his engineering vest. I don't recall science officers having a specific color so I just used the greyish blue that Spock's uniform already had.

The trouble with most transitional uniform concepts is that they take features from one design and apply them to a design where it just doesn't work. The cut of the TMP tunics don't lend themselves to the flaps on the monster maroon jackets, for instance. So they end up looking like mish-mashes instead of cohesive designs. Look at how the TMP uniforms were reworked into TWOK and you'll see a jumping off point for an transition.

In most actual clothing or uniforms, there's no such thing as "transitional". Clothing doesn't "evolve" and slowly change its appearance.

Lots to like about TMP uniforms. More division colors, alternate rank insignia, rank and division all-in-one, short or long sleeve options. Plus they are reasonably evolutionary from TOS. There are some things about them I personally don't like, but on their conceptual strength I rate them the best of all Trek, movies and TV.

I think the cut and design of the standard 2 piece TMP uniform is fine. I'm just not a fan of the tunic and pants being the same drab colors. Had they kept the TOS color scheme and added a couple more division colors, I'd have enjoyed them more.

I love the TMP uniforms for the sheer variety they provide, it offers something visually different for every character. The colour scheme is a little wishy-washy though.

No need to transition. Just swap 'em out and rip the band aid off. Pajamas to drum corps majorette in one fell swoop!

I mean, the subsequent transition from TWOK to TWOK-sans-turtleneck to TWOK-sans-sans-turtleneck-AND-belt is a better example IMO of evolution of the uniform. It would have been really weird the day everyone suddenly swapped into back jumpsuits in the early 2350s.

Meanwhile, the enlisted jumpsuit stayed exactly the same from TWOK till at least 2344, which is a good sixty years minimum and probably closer to seventy. Arguably the longest serving Starfleet uniform of them all!

I agree. The only changes I would make to the TMP uniforms would be to have the trousers be black, get rid of the belly warmers, and give the women an optional skirt version. ;)
I also really miss the rank sleeve stripes which were never seen again after TMP until the 2009 movie. I think if they had used the sleeve stripes on the TWOK uniforms instead of the rank pins, it would have done a lot to bridge the gap between uniform styles.

I would add a straight hemline for the bottom of the tunic, and a collar for the field jacket. Hard to keep warm with an exposed neck!

Oh yeah. And for my money, TMP stripes were the best looking. Apparently they couldn't get any of the OS braid, so they used half-inch navy gold lace and sewed on narrow gold braid to make the zig-zag pattern. They looked really solid. TMP uniforms had a really high grade of workmanship overall.

I always thought the enlisted uniforms from the latter movie era would be fairly close to the a transitional uniform.

If I recall correctly, these actually are something of a real-world transition, since they were just recut and recolored left-overs from TMP.

I have no problem with the curved bottom of the shirt. However, what really bothers me most is that they didn't get that wooden support out of the picture!
But I digress.

Notice how they're all looking to the left. There's another photographer over there, and his shot doesn't have it. So of course, this is the one they release.
