TRANSFORMERS: War for Cybertron Thread

Freman

Fleet Captain
Fleet Captain
So this comes out on Tuesday, but apparently some Sears outlets released it on Friday. Has anyone played yet? I'm hearing nothing but good things about it, and can't wait until Tuesday (even though, as usual, my crappy town probably won't have one lousy copy until 3 or 4 weeks after release date).

I never really been a fan of Transformers, not that I don't like it, just never watched it as I was "getting too old" to watch such things so I didn't.

I did see the first movie and was entertained enough by it.

So with that said I will say I'll be picking this one up.
Why you say?

Because I'm a big fan of drop in drop out co-op Ala Borderlands so I'll support it, here is just hoping I have fun along the way but don't expect me to know who is who and what powers or whatever any of t hem have. :D

There's a demo out there if you want to give it a spin first. Supposedly it plays like Call of Duty and Gears of War.

Here's the trailer:

And here's the TV commercial that plays on the nostalgia: :)

Yeah, that Shockwave commercial is awesome! I even had to show that one to my wife! I may have to bite the bullet and upgrade my computer just so I can play this.

Actually, the demo is incredible. After playing it, the game went from a "eh, check it out when it gets cheap" idea to a "buy it the day it cames out" one.

Does it feel like Transformers or a standard shooter with a Transformers skin?

The best comparison, in terms of gameplay versus license, that I can think of is Batman: Arkham Asylum, in that the Unreal Engine 3 has been tweaked and molded into replicating the experience of being a gigantic fucking robot that transforms into a jet / truck / tank / car, in much the same way that Arkham Asylum made you feel like a master of ass-kickery, fear and intimidation.

Take Battlefield: Bad Company 2's class system, Gears of War-style action (in that it's fast-paced, third-person, very frantic and mobile) and Modern Warfare perks, with the gameplay tweaks I mentioned earlier, and it comes out into a great experience.

There are few things as satisfying as zooming around as a Scout, transforming into robot mode, cloaking, sneaking up behind some Decepticon scum, decloaking with a melee clobberin' and a pistol shot to the head, transforming back into vehicle mode, dodging some shots from more Decepticon scum, zooming up a wall until you're driving on the ceiling, and then dropping down to the ground, transforming in mid-air, landing in front of some dumb bastard who didn't bother to look up in the sky, and demanding that he give you his face.

I'm not saying that the gameplay is like Arkham Asylum. I'm saying that in terms of applying the license to the game and making the player feel like the character, it's equivalent to AA. There's a lot of care and detail put into this, and the gameplay really feels like giant fucking robots.

Basically, what I'm saying is that this isn't Gears of War with Peter Cullen and Corey Burton doing voices. This was clearly made by Transformers fans who put a lot of care into the game, love the property and also cared about making a good game underneath everything, as opposed to just a licensed pile of crap.

Yeah, I got ya on that. AA was my favorite game of 2009 and if this applies the license like AA did, then it will be awesome.

Nice to see Omega Supreme in the trailer, though I'd tend to think Trypticon's a little bigger than him. :D

Bonus is that it's being sold for 40 bucks everywhere in Canada because of Walmart's aggressive pricing.

Awesome. Thanks for the info!

I haven't bought a game in years and I doubt my older PC will run this, but I'll be sure to check that, after such a rave review.

Got it today for the 360. So far it is really fun. I'm loving every minute of it. And Multiplayer wasn't bad, either. Not as fun as Halo or anything, but pretty decent.

I tried the MP. Holy cow, was that fun. The Scout is a pretty awesome class. After a few matches, I was zipping around, cloaking and just destroying.

Going to get this game either this weekend or next.

Well not EB. b/c trading in 3 $8 games is cheaper than $40

But I did pick it up and cemented my decision to avoid EB for all my gaming needs.
