Transformers Recommendation

The original series is coming back to DVD, if it isn't already. Shorthand, people refer to it as "G1." No one ever dies, not even the robots (that's saved for Transformers: The Movie).

THE HEARTBREAK. There are tears in my house every time we watch the movie. Ironhide... :(

^ Those deaths in Transformers: The Movie must've put all the little kids into shock. Nothing could bring anyone down in the cartoon, and then before you know it, in the movie they're getting killed off with a single shot and aren't even given dialog. Wheeljeck debuted in the movie as a corpse!

A flat corpse if I remember correctly.

Beast Wars and Beast Machines are still the two best series in the franchises 25 year history. While vehicles tend to be much cooler, BW/BM had a great plot overall and was a very good show as a result. It's a shame that finding the DVD sets is now very difficult. It's probably the reason Transformers is still around too and is as popular as it is (other than the movie). If the franchise didn't do well in the 90's with BW, who knows what would have happened to Transformers. Chances are, it would have come back but we probably wouldn't have a second movie coming out right now.

Obviously, the current incarnation, Transformers: Animated, can be watched on Cartoon Network so it is the easiest to get your child into. Just go out and get some of the toys and see what happens.

I would also like to point out that you may want to avoid the Japanese G1 stuff especially Headmasters.

Yeah, Headmasters, Victory are all pretty horrible. But they aren't really sold around that much so... just stick with Animated - Heck if you can still find it, you can find an Animated Prime vs Megatron 2 pack with a DVD of the first episode of the Animated show. Or you can get the first season (all of like 12 episodes) for less than 20 bucks.

Just stay away from the first Transformers:The Movie - especially once he gets into the characters. Wait until he's older - or heh just watch it yourself.

And the Animated toys are pretty good, relatively easy - especially if you get like the "Activators". Less fragile than some of the Movie or Classics Universe toys. You can easily find a Prime, Megatron, Bumblebee and a few other 'hero' characters pretty much everywhere, which isn't really to be said of the 'G1 esque' stuff - unless he likes the movie stuff
