Transformers comics

[Candlelight]

I have around 200 issues of The Transformers (UK) plus half the annuals released.

Can someone point me in the direction of a decent website(s) where I can find what they may be worth?

Anyone else still got their collection? I have all of them as PDF but there's nothing like the original paper. Brings back so many memories.

It varies, earlier and later issues tend to be worth more, but for the bulk of the run if you get more than £1.50 (which is about the average I paid when I brought the whole lot en bulk) an issue you'll be lucky (but of course, with over 200 to sell that still adds up).

With the exception of the last couple, the Annuals are basically worthless. There seem to be more copies of them out there than there were people in the UK at the time.

I have issues 70-280 with a few missing in that run, notably around the issue 200 area cos my gran (who bought them and sent them over to me in NZ) came out here for a holiday, then got sick.

I have the common annuals too. Still, should get a decent price for them, cheers.

I have a lot of the trade collections myself, and I'm not sure exactly how much their availability might affect the value of the original single issues. The only issue with IDW's reprints was an initial inability to include characters like Circuit Breaker and Spider-Man, which Marvel owns, but it seems that's been corrected as the Classics trades include those issues.

Being in New Zeeland could very well up the price for you, with most sellers being in the UK all you've got to do really is ensure the price you're selling for still works out less than the shipping would.

And of course, Titan reprinted nearly the whole lot (bar some Furman blocked early UK stuff) with no copyright problems before that as well. For anyone in the UK looking to collect the series the Titan books are still the best bet for the US series, most of them are still clogging up the bargin shelves of the average Forbiden Planet for a couple of quid each, and the ones they don't have don't tend to go for much more. Buying those books and collecting the couple of issues they didn't reprint on their own is still the cheapest way to collect the whole American run.

I do say though, the current British reprints IDW are doing are just lovely in every way. Not so much for the reproduction (which is sadly both fairly small and- in the first two books- often poor) but for the utterly insane amount of indepth research and interviews James Roberts has done for the background notes.

I've enjoyed collecting those myself, since they represent a unique branch of the comics line that often went in a different direction than the American line (but did an impressive job of maintaining a sense of continuity for the most part).

I have somewhere the four issue limited series that started it all. I normally hate over-stylized art work but the painting on the cover of issue one is fantastic. I had a soft spot for Spidey's appearance in issue 2.. it was hilarious. Also, issue 5, which takes place after the limited run, had an awesome painting of a triumphant Shockwave. I remember back in the day when I thought it was over at four, and my brother coming back from the story describing the cover of this issue to me!
