Transformers 2: Ravage, and a new-old character revealed *SPOILERS*

Re: Transformers 2: Ravage, and a new-old character revealed *SPOILERS

These designs are just too "busy".
I agree though I do think it shows how alien they truly are.

Well yeah...that's the point. You gotta ask yourself, do you really want a series of films made in the late 2000s which are based on a '80s cartoon to look like an '80s cartoon on the big screen? If you're going to to do a live action version of something such as big giant robots, do you want to make them look like '80s toys, or do you want some sort of resemblance to real life mechanics?

I mean this concept was explained in the DVD extras of the first film and it made total sense. I mean, can you imagine if Soundwave looked like a oversized cassette player in 2009? The modern viewing audience (that didn't know about G1) would look at it and say, "Sheesh, haven't they heard of iPods?"

That said, the second pic of Soundwave looks great. Hope they're using that design. Looks close enough to the old G1 toy but in this Michael Bay universe.

Re: Transformers 2: Ravage, and a new-old character revealed *SPOILERS

Ravage looks great - I'm really liking him. And Megatron is something of an improvement, but I really wish they'd give him an Earth form. He looks quite good, but I want him to be a robot in disguise.
This version of Megs actually hates Earth and everything it stands for, hence his reluctance to choose an Earth form to blend in. His arrogance causes him to think he needs not to be covert.

Yeah I've heard that before, but Megatron has always hated Earth and its people, this version isn't notably different in that regard (except that he's less chatty about it)

These look nice. I wonder what Ravage transforms into...

Now where are those new T2 Megan Fox images ? :p

well in the G1 comics (at least in the UK version) Megatron, like the other 1984 Transformers, had an Earthen alt-mode forced on him by the Ark computer which rebuilt the deactivated Transformers to resemble the Earth machine which most closely resembeled their Cybertronian forms. IIRC, this may also have been the case in the G1 'toon, but i'm not 100%

the business of trans-scanning an alt mode and adopting it, AFAIK, is a new concept to the mythos from the 2007 movie...

You are correct. In the comics, the Ark did the same thing with scanning whatever looked comparable to the Cybertronian form.

Yeah it is, but they could give him an Earth mode if they wanted without breaking the character. I think the problem is that I'm just not that keen on the Cybertronian look they use in these films, or I wouldn't mind so much.
