Transformers 2 - Missed Opportunity (Spoiler)

oh for heaven's sake! This is a movie that sprung from marketing toys. It doesn't pretend to be momentous science fiction. It's just action from beginning to end. I thought getting Sam to OP at the end took WAAY too long but other than that, it was a pretty good summer movie. But then, I never played with transformers or watched the tv show so I had no canon expectations beyond the first movie. If you just like action movies you'd probably like this one.

Except all of the good action movies have decent stories and characters in them -as well as something of a plot- The Lethal Weapon seires, the Die Hard series, the Rambo series, the (first two) Terminator movies. Just to name a random few.

It doesn't rape you in the ass with nonsense for an hour straight with a bunch of characters you don't give a shit about nor treat the titular characters as secondaries.

Even as a Summer Action movie this one fails.

According to recent reports, the movie didn't fail. In fact, it out made everyone of the movies in your signature.

SPOILER WARNING!

I think Bay and company missed a great opportunity following Primes' battle with the Fallen. Instead of jettisoning Jetfire's parts, it would have been much cooler if Prime had transformed into a slightly different rig with a wind scoop and a trailer. It would have made for a great moment for the fans and the an excellent marketing opportunity.

I like that idea, I hated the way Optimus just dumps Jetfire on the ground, I thought he deserved more respect than that.

The only way this movie would have been worse creativity wise is if it was a hard core porn with robot fucking and made in Japan...and with Paris Hilton acting in it. I think this is one step above it...but barely.

Wait, the movie's been out three weeks, has made 2/3 of a BILLION dollars worldwide and the contention is the film is horrible beyond belief? If it were truly as awful as you all are bemoaning, it would be dying a quick death and people wouldn't be seeing it multiple times, nor encouraging others through word of mouth to go. Which, anecdotally, I can say is happening.

Money made might not equate precisely with overall quality, but to completely dismiss the amount of money this thing is sucking up Devastator-style, is ridiculous. Objectively all around bad movies don't make this kind of money. It's not the greatest thing ever, sure, but proclaiming your subjective negative opinion of the film as FACT while willfully ignoring its boxoffice is short-sighted.

As for the op, I agree, using Jetfire's parts to make a trailer for Optimus would have been pretty sweet.

I've no idea why this movie is doing so good but it flabergasts me and astonishes me that people are seeing this in such large numbers. I've no idea why some of the WoM is so good, I've personaly not heard any but one person say anything good about it.

But, again, money doesn't equal quality. Just because this movie has done gang-busters in the box office doesn't make up for the noisy mess of shit it is.

It's in keeping with the first movie. "Ohhh, Jazz... welp, moving on!" [tosses half a robot corpse over his shoulder]

I have to admit, the fact that TF2 is outgrossing the first film is a mystery to me. The original had many, many flaws, but the story at least held together and there was the "wow" of having vehicles turn into giant robots and back right before your eyes. The second film is a bunch of random set-pieces held together by only the sloppiest of narrative glue and the VFX feel like little more than coloured streaks and blurs that never hold still for long enough to appreciate all the effort that went into them, but people are eating it up. Different strokes, I guess.

The first movie, also, atleast had a bit -though thin- of a narrative.

This movie just rapes you in the ass with noise and nonsense over the last hour of its run.
