Transformers 2 - Missed Opportunity (Spoiler)

SPOILER WARNING!

I think Bay and company missed a great opportunity following Primes' battle with the Fallen. Instead of jettisoning Jetfire's parts, it would have been much cooler if Prime had transformed into a slightly different rig with a wind scoop and a trailer. It would have made for a great moment for the fans and the an excellent marketing opportunity.

Instead of using the Fallen they should have used Unicron and resurrected Megatron as Galvatron (they say they didn't do this because they didn't want audiences confused but it could have been clarifid with a simple scene).

This film is full of missed opportunities but one that stands out for me is the IMAX version. It could have been awesome to have had IMAX in the way The Dark Knight used it. But instead, especially in the scenes in the desert, it jumps between regular film and IMAX so much that's it ridiculously distracting and cheapens the impact of the IMAX scenes.

It really does feel as if the decision to filim scenes in IMAX was done at the last minute, versus TDK which obviously had it well thought-out in advance.

Unicron is supposedly going to be the villain in the third film, but i agree about Galvatron. Heck give Nimoy a big enough cheque and he would probably voice him too.

Apprently Nimoy was going to voice the Fallen and had been contacted by Bay (he happens to be a brother in a law or something like that) but something happened and it fell through. Didn't mind Tony Todd at all but the Fallen was pointless and it would have been so much more compelling to use maybe Cyclonus or something like that since Unicron is coming.

The final battle should've been more than 30 seconds long.

Indeed. For 2.5 hours you're being told "only a Prime can defeat the Fallen" and when they finally get to that point, it lasts all of thirty second and *poof*, he's dead. It was a little anticlimactic.

In the comics where the Fallen comes from he IS Unicrons main minion, so not much of a problem there.

You can't have Nimoy voicing anyone in Transformers. Then Shatner would complain that he wasn't given a role to voice. :p

A missed oppertunity in my opinion, was in both movies. Optimus Prime's theme was the best track on the sound track, yet it went unused in the first movie. They had a great chance to use it in the optimus death scenes, yet did not.

Disapointing.

Yeah I pretty much suspected that The Fallen had been corrupted by Unicron...and combined with Tyrees's question about who created them that we will get Unicron in Transformers 3. I just hope that they make him look okay but I know that is too much too hope for.

I dunno, Optimus Prime's movie version was totally reminiscant of his G1 look.

oh for heaven's sake! This is a movie that sprung from marketing toys. It doesn't pretend to be momentous science fiction. It's just action from beginning to end. I thought getting Sam to OP at the end took WAAY too long but other than that, it was a pretty good summer movie. But then, I never played with transformers or watched the tv show so I had no canon expectations beyond the first movie. If you just like action movies you'd probably like this one.
