Transatlantic Tunnel

I was attracted by the title, but can't be arsed reading the whole thread (it is a Tacky thread, after all). But I just thought I'd throw in that with the mid-Atlantic Rift constantly growing, plus earthquakes etc associated with that, it would never work. Possibly if the tunnel floated at a set depth, but that the raises a whole other set of technical issues.

No, entirely impractical. Oh, of course, a Tacky thread.

In the episode of Extreme Engineering that dealt with such a tunnel, that is exactly what they thought it would be. The tunnel would float, about halfway up from the seafloor. It would also be flexible enough to deal with quakes and other similar natural phenomena (similar to how the BART tunnels do in San Francisco).

But as I said, I guess it really would be kinda overkill, if only for the fact that you'd still have to take a plane to get to one of the endpoints (New York or London) unless you already lived in those cities.

Side note: "Tacky thread"?

The infamous Fire/Tachyon Shield/All Seeing Eye. Go back over some of the threads started in here about magnets or building a pyramid to get into space (yep, that big). Hilarity ensued. He experienced the banhammer recently.

Not sure if I'm supposed to discuss it, but got in between the Squiggy vs Callan (Sandbagger) argument in TNZ, about who was going to leave after a ridiculous bet regarding the recent election. Squiggy quit, Callan was canned for being, well, Callan, and when our hero said a few stupid things, Spiff decided he wasn't in the mood for his shit and dropped the hammer on him too. T'Bonz backed him up. It was, as such things in TNZ are, epic.

Sirius is the brightest star in the night sky, but that's not important right now. And don't call me Shirley.
