Trailer 3 Discussion Thread

Like it. Not much new, but nice to see more Lorca (I'm getting just a hint of Mal Reynolds), and a bit of a KirkSpeech from Burnham. What's the ship getting nuked at 0:31? Looks almost like the JJPrise, he whispers.

The trailer has a TVMA rating on it. That's news to me.

Sonequa Martin-Green is terrible again in this trailer. Really bad narration. It just doesn't suit her. She doesn't have that strong presence like Stewart/Brooks/Mulgrew. She sounds sounds like a kid.

I like Captain Lorca in that one.

"No dream protects us from you "
I think, this line is a bit weird...

Neither here nor there... but when my ten year old just watched the trailer he said it looked like the movies.

Interesting to note, it seems that the Klingon (I think its Klingon) ship is decloaking because the Europa is ramming into it. Maybe its an accident? The Europa flies into it because it doesn't know it's there.

...

That was the main thing I noticed. So there goes Harberts' statement that "We want to make sure we’re not creating a show that fans can’t share with their families."

Still looks great to me.
I like the bit about Burnham trying to save people, that seems like a very Trek way to approach things.

I'm wondering if some of the Klingons dialogue will be in English, or if they just did English versions of one or two scenes for promotional stuff. I thought they said all of the Klingons' dialogue would be Klingonese with subtitles, but we have seen a scene with T'Kuvma speaking in English in two of the trailers now.

I never believed for a second DSC would feature gratuitous sex or violence, despite the rumours flying around awhile ago. Now it's rated TV-MA (that's Mature Audience, for anyone unfamiliar with US TV ratings. As high as it goes), and I have no idea what to expect!

TV-MA was my big takeaway. What will that mean... hmmmmm?

Hard to tell. Some TV-MA shows are chock full of sexy sex, profanity, and violence. Others (like Hinterland and The Crown) have extremely occasional cursing and/or some random violence that is bloody but nothing worse than you would see on CSI.
One I saw - Shetland - was rated MA because it dealt with the rape of a main cast member.

There is a lot of ways the MA rating can go, but I suspect this one is for violence.

I'm much more convinced now that Burnham spends at least some of the pilot in silver division colours - before I wondered if it was a trick of the light but in that trailer she's stood next to Lorca in the same shot and their division stripes are definitely different colours.

I noticed the same thing.
