Trailer 3: Audience Reaction

Just got back from seeing Watchmen. For some inexplicable reason they showed the first version of the teaser trailer (the one made before the date was pushed back to May 2009).

Theatre was fairly empty - only about 2 dozen people in all. There were some 12 year old (approx) kids in the row in front of me - half way through Nimoy's "Space.. the final frontier.." one of them said something like "This is for nerds!". Then they had a chuckle that the promo ended with "Coming Christmas 2008" and said "Ha! It's a bit late!".

I felt like giving them a clip around the ear, but hey what you gonna do..

I really don't post much on this website. Mostly lurk, but after seeing the newest trailer I thought I should offer this much: I think it's probably one of the best trailers I've ever seen, and without foreshadowing much, one of the best looking movies. I pray it lives up to the hype.

If you missed it at Watchment (which I saw and liked) then simply go to the Trek website. It's there.

Went and saw Watchmen Saturday night and the theater was packed absolutely full. They showed a trailer for some horror flick and the audience was dead silent. The Star Trek trailer was next and at various points i could hear people around me saying "cool" or "holy crap". When the trailer ended there was a noticeable "buzz" in the air. People were whispering and talking to each other. I heard a few more comments like "awesome" and "that looks good." The best comment of all was from a row or two behind me, i overheard a girl say "I don't even like Star Trek, but i am so going to see that!"

Aside from that i thought that Watchmen was pretty good. And that Terminator Salvation trailer was pretty kick ass too.

It could be worse. I think I posted on here before that when I went to see RoboCop 2, I saw a preview for... RoboCop 2.

It was generally quiet in my theatre, but I did hear one woman say "Not another one?" She might have been talking about something else, but it was just as the trailer ended...

That woman obviously didn't get the point of the Trailer.

I dare say a lot of Women won't. They aren't really into the big action Sci-fi movies, I dare say they'll be quite a few Women saying "Not another one". Present company accepted of course.

Well, no offense, but how would those women not be right?

This is "another one."

My wife and I went to see Watchmen last night, the midnight showing; which was her idea, actually, on account of wanting to get it over with early (uh hmmm... :)). I was relieved that they did show it, given the disappointment of not seeing trailer two with Quantumn of Solace. I wasn't able to gauge the audience's reaction up to a certain point owing to the fact that I was swept up in the exhilaration of seeing it on the big screen. Some guy who had been a bit boisterous in a suppressedly rowdy kind of way during the hour or two leading up to the show shouted "Star Wars!" at the end of it; some of the audience laughed. My wife dispaired that this audience of a predominantly younger generation than ourselves (we're in our late 20's/early 30's) didn't understand. I didn't know what to make of it; I "got" the guy's joke in one sense, I guess; in another sense, I wasn't sure what the point of his outburst was. I honestly didn't know what to feel, if it was worth it to laugh, or scowl. Curious, eh?

You wouldn't happen to live in Brentwood, CA would you? Because that's exactly what happened when I saw the Watchmen midnight showing last night, some idiot yelling out "Star Wars!"

Nah, we're in Arizona. It's really too bad, though, kind of disheartening.

It was sort of a mixed reaction in the theatre I went to last night. It was only partially filled for Watchmen, we went to see the first showing so maybe it got packed later for the second showing. My friend and I were probably the loudest in response, he even jumped out of his chair at one point lol. There were some ooohs and genuine surprise...but it was mostly mixed.

Ah... So it's just a statement of fact....and here I was thinking there was some hidden resentment in their words.

No reason why it couldn't be both. :p

I saw Watchmen yesterday and so got to see this trailer on the big screen.

I thought it rocked, and so did the rest of the audience. At least, what there was of it.

If my theatre is any indication, Watchmen is not really gonna do very well. The theatre was less than half full and it was the first weekend.

But anyway...those who were there seemed to like it very much. And it even got me totally pumped for this movie again. I intentionally avoided the trailer online since I knew I'd see it yesterday and wanted the fell effect of the big screen. And I was not disappointed. :)

Audiences in my area are generally very polite and hard to read. I didn't notice a particular strong reaction in my crowd, just some tittering from the front rows

Damn, I haven't done any tittering in a movie since '86 with a girl named Cindy. But that was in the back row, so we weren't spotted.

Hey, women say that about guys too but a lot of them keep putting up with us.

we saw Watchmen last night... packed theatre... audience reaction to Trek trailer seemed mixed... we didn't hear any boos (thank god!) but we did hear a buzz and assorted... "really? that's the new Trek movie?!" kinda stuff around us.

^ Actually, I think that sounds pretty good. John Q. Public are pretty tired of the 'old' Star Trek movies...and this one looks so new and different that it is no doubt shocking people. But in a good way.

Whatever gets 'em in the theatre, is what I say. Even if it's simply curiosity. The film will take care of the rest, I believe. :)

The trailer was attached to Watchmen here in Italy, too. I didn't even realized it until it started showing. It was great seeing it dubbed in Italian: good voices, even if a bit generic. In my heart I hoped they would keep the old voice actors, but I knew they were not suited for actors forty years younger. So not really a complaint.
There was a bit of buzz when the trailer started, just some "ooh" probably due to the gorgeous visual but not specific. As soon as they realized it was Star Trek (Spock's recognizable face, "Captain Kirk was a great man", etc.), the buzz intensified and got a surprised tone. At the end there were many "wow", mixed with some "really?"
In the end, I think it was well received.

Watchmen was dark, gloomy, desperate and depressing, and in the end I went out of the theater feeling like I wanted to shoot myself. It was... wonderful. :D

Went to see Watchmen with my girlfriend in Czech Republic. They showed few trailers before the film, including the 2nd trailer to Star Trek, the one with the car.
There was good chatter and some laughs from the audience after it, not sure what to make from it, though...

Saw it in the cinema in front of Watchmen (awesome movie!) and I don't know about the rest of the audience, but I had a huge grin by the end of the trailer - it's the first Star Trek trailer I've seen in the cinema and it was really exciting. :techman:

Damnit, now you've got me interested.
Yeah, it was really an awesome movie. It hits you like a punch in the stomach sometimes, visually and thematically, but it's really worth the experience.

And the soundtrack is abso-fucking-lutely spectacular.
