Trailer 3: Audience Reaction

Since the 3rd Trailer is officially out in theaters today (with Watchman) i thought it might be interesting to discuss the audience reaction to it at your local theater.

Now I got it in my head that I want to read the Watchmen comic first, as I heard the movie isn't good, so more delays...

Ya it would be interesting to see the reactions to this trailer in theaters as I think it is by far the best one yet. Actually I think it is probably the best Trek trailer I have ever seen!

I loved it, and I've never read the comic, those around who had read it
had mixed reactions to the film.

Classic fanbase/boi scenario. The movie is great but people want to
judge it's merits on the comic.

Is it attatched to Watchmen over here in the UK?

Call your cinema and ask.

I got burned on trailer 2, I assumed/took peoples word it was attached to QoS but it wasn't. I am going to make sure it is attached to my screening of Watchmen even if I have to ask the Manager.

I'm going to go watch Watchmen tomorrow night, i'll let you know if there is a reaction.

My wife and I went to see Watchmen last night, the midnight showing; which was her idea, actually, on account of wanting to get it over with early (uh hmmm... :)). I was relieved that they did show it, given the disappointment of not seeing trailer two with Quantumn of Solace. I wasn't able to gauge the audience's reaction up to a certain point owing to the fact that I was swept up in the exhilaration of seeing it on the big screen. Some guy who had been a bit boisterous in a suppressedly rowdy kind of way during the hour or two leading up to the show shouted "Star Wars!" at the end of it; some of the audience laughed. My wife dispaired that this audience of a predominantly younger generation than ourselves (we're in our late 20's/early 30's) didn't understand. I didn't know what to make of it; I "got" the guy's joke in one sense, I guess; in another sense, I wasn't sure what the point of his outburst was. I honestly didn't know what to feel, if it was worth it to laugh, or scowl. Curious, eh?

The guy who yelled ''Star Wars'' better never meet me in a dark alley:evil:

Saw Watchmen this afternoon. I had seen the Star Trek trailer online last night but it truly is a whole different experience on the big screen. I suspect this is going to be one of those movies that justifies the continued existence of movie theaters.

It wasn't a big crowd for the early afternoon showing and they were fairly subdued, but the trailer did generate some buzz. A person behind me said something like, "That was Star Trek!?" Another person said, "May is gonna be a good month for me at the movie theater." I would say they are succeeding in at least getting the attention of people outside the fanbase.

As for Watchmen, I wasn't impressed. It was technically well done but oh, so cynical and grim. I walked out of the theater feeling tired and depressed, which I could have gotten just as easily from watching the news for a couple of hours and without spending 9 bucks for it.

After the Godawful messes that ARE the prequels...and that Godawful Clone Wars movie...

Who could honestly call themselves a Star Wars fan? :wtf:

Seriously, Lucas only did two things right with Star Wars -- A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back...maybe three things of you count Revenge of the Sith (which, for me, is a mixed bag. I hate the Padme/Anakin scenes. They make me cringe.)

Star Trek's only sin was being boring and repetitive. Star Wars completely gave up any pretenses of being for adults in any way whatsoever with Return of the Jedi all the way through the Clone Wars Movie.

It's embarassing and juvenile.

Even at it's worst, I could never say that about Star Trek!

I take it then you have never read the book the film is based on then?;) or you would have known WATCHMEN corners the market when it comes to ''cynical & grim''

No, I never read the graphic novel, but I've heard a lot about it. I went in knowing it wasn't going to be a feel-good kind of movie but I was hoping it might make up for it in other ways. It didn't. If you want your lack of faith in the human race reaffirmed, even for the so-called "good guys," then I suppose this is a great movie for you, but I just didn't need it.

I'm guessing this movie will have a big opening weekend and then taper off pretty fast as people who are already weary with the woes of the world find other ways to distract themselves.

Yep, that sounds like Watchmen alright.

I saw the midnight showing of Watchmen, and I figured that since it was genre fans that filled up the midnight showing, I thought the trailers that were shown would get a reaction. The Star Trek trailer was the 1st one shown, and the audience reaction was great. The first shot of the Kelvin in battle was received with a collective whoa from the audience. When Sulu came on screen fighting the Romulans, the audience broke out in applause, probably since he is Harold from Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle. There was a similar reaction when Simon Pegg was shown. At the end of the trailer, when the title card came up, about half the audience started clapping, and some guy in the front row threw up the Vulcan salute, and everyone cheered some more. Some guy behind me then went, "I can't believe that was Star Trek. Holy shit."

However, since most of the people there are genre fans, I figured for all the trailers the reaction was the same. The Terminator trailer was next, but that was met with silence, so I figure the Trek trailer really got to people.

On the big screen this movie is going to be INCREDIBLE.

Ditto although his boisterous antics in the build up to the show may already have brought about a reaction in me akin to that of Scotty's when the Klingon's mocked the enterprise in "The Trouble with Tribble's"!
