Google's 'Alexa' became the 23rd Century's 'Barrett-Tone' - which was then the standard voice interface for all 23rd century era Starships.

It was a bit too confusing and incoherent for me to really get very excited. Plus I'm not a fan of pseudo-philosophical Hollywood-deep voice-overs like "Up is down, down is up, blabla". I would've liked to just see more of the crew and their interaction and a bit less action.
But then again I think I'm just not a fan of trailers in general. :P

But it did look good and worked better than the first one.

Yes, I was trying to think what it was that wasn't grabbing me. Visually it looks great. But, yeah, I can do without the OTT deep voice trailer style.

For myself, I find it unremarkable. As a video gamer, I was first exposed to this what I saw in the trailer in games like Call of Duty, where brown and gray and gritty were seen as being edgier and more realistic. Then, it began showing in movies, like the Christopher Nolan Batman trilogy and the recent DCU movies. Wonder Woman was a shock to the DCU universe - it actually embraced a color palette.

I am more attracted to the colorful palette of the other Star Trek-type show, "The Orville". My me-issue with Orville is with the comedy - I have not laughed in a long time with a comedy. Many comedies feel labored and cringey today.

I am on the fence when it comes to Star Trek: Discovery. Two of my favorite franchises, Star Trek and Doctor Who, have traveled down paths I am reluctant to follow. I pretty much stopped watching Doctor Who this year.

@sttngfan1701d, I honestly can't understand how anyone can look at this trailer and say it looks cheap and like a fan film. Can you pinpoint exactly what gives you that feeling, because to me this really looks like movie quality special effects and cinematography. (The only thing that looks a bit TV-y to me is the shot where Sarek saves young Burnham from the fire at the school. It's just composed in a strange way and it looks like it was filmed using a video camera.) And just for reference, can you name a TV show that doesn't look cheap to you?

Rewatching the trailer I more and more get the feeling something's awry on Discovery. At one point Burnham asks “What the hell is going on on this ship?” Plus, judging from body language and demeanor, Lorca seems like a Starfleet captain with a questionable agenda. Maybe he's doing something against Starfleet orders?

And another thing: Is it now established that the event from Trek's past that Fuller alluded to, that would play a central part in the series, is the Four Years war with the Klingons?

I too got the distinct impression that Lorca is up to no good. Sounds like he may be a captain with a case of Badmiral.

This looks really good. I hope it lives up to the hype.

It looks nothing like the world of TOS. Not just the look, but the technology is completely wrong too. Forcefields of the kind seen here are the stuff of TNG and VOY. I don't mind one bit, I'm going in assuming a reboot more influenced by the recent Trek movies, but others I'm sure will.

The visuals are just being updated that's all. Same timeline, new visuals. Looks great!

I wonder if Meyer is behind the dialogue lift from Enterprise - the "Challenge your preconceptions..." thing. He got a lot of narrative mileage out of Hallmark Card Deep Thoughts in his old Trek movies, like "The needs of the many..."

I'll reserve final judgement until I see the show, but from what they've shown us so far, the new technology makes a huge difference.

Modern SFx technology is simply better at showing us what was always there. TOS had shields, we just couldn't see them.

Well, there will be a search engine of some sorts by the end of this century. People will need some method of finding a thing in a vast sea of knowledge.

I am also very comfortable treating it as a reboot/alternate timeline based on what I've seen.
