They'll probably use soft plastic, or posable rubber so simulate the tentacles.
I would expect the Narada to be a VERY simplified version of the ship you see on screen.
If you go to bbts.com and look at the Narada pic there... I think the big pic is how it appears in the movie and the smaller one is a mock-up of what the toy might look like. I mean, it could have changed because at the time this pic was released (it wasn't really meant for public eyes) they were still developing the toy. But I'm expecting it to really just give more of a feel of the ship then be terribly accurate. Kind of like the old Borg Cube toy. But I'd love to be surprised.

I haven't bought a "Star Trek" toy in years but, I must confess the new version of the Enterprise has caught my eye. I figure I'll wait a bit & see if the price drops first, though. I learned my lesson with the last wave of Playmates "Star Trek" toys...a lot of them released after the premiere of "Star Trek: Voyager" pretty much sat on the shelves collecting dust. I was actually able to get one of the "Next Generation" shuttles (which was a very cool toy) released in 1992, late in 1998 for less than ten bucks! Still have it, too.
A lot of the smaller Kirk figures at a local Wal*Mart had bad face paint applications and details. They didn't come off a good assembly line on the day they were cranked out.

Anyone who's read Countdown, could you tell us what the Narada originally looked like?
Meaning, the ship in its 'native' Romulan configuration...before it was refit with Borg technology.
For a mining vessel the Narada sure is gigantic. Makes one wonder how much dilithium or other ores a monster like that was designed to haul.
I think the Narada had so many arms and extensions because it used its heavy demolition torpedos to blast asteroids to dust and then collected the metal dust using those arms and extensions. They provide a *lot* of surface area that could, for instance, be charged to collect the dust electrostatically or such.
That's a very interesting and logical-sounding theory. Is that from the COUNTDOWN graphic novels by any chance, or insinuated in them?

How's this? (Probable Countdown spoilers if you click on the images to embiggen, but it should not be necessary in order to see what Narada looks like, pre-modification.)
Anyone here think there should have been at least one flashback sequence to show what the Narada looked like before it traveled back from the Picard era, for context's sake...to explain why the hell it looks and acts the way it does?
There is absolutely nothing in the film to suggest that the Narada didn't always look that way. In fact, just the opposite: Nero clearly explains his ship is a simple mining vessel, not a hybrid Romulan/Borg-enhanced über-battleship. Therefore, a flashback that showed the Narada as anything else would be pointless as well as potentially quite confusing.
If you need an in-universe explanation why the Narada looks the way it does, then use what information we have. It never fires phasers, disruptors, or any other beam weapon, so we can assume it doesn't have those armaments. Why doesn't a hybrid Romulan/Borg-enhanced über-battleship have beam weapons?
The only "weapons" that it fires are multi-warhead torpedos -- that'd make sense as some sort of 24th-century Romulan heavy demolition torpedos for pulverizing asteroids into dust.
As noted above, as a mining vessel, the Narada could have so many arms and extensions in order to collect the ore dust -- they provide a *lot* of surface area that could, for instance, be charged to collect the dust electrostatically or such.
Its huge size would make it (1) more efficient to collect the ore dust, (2) able to store all the raw material, and/or (3) capable of housing necessary ore processing equipment.
The Narada is probably just a flying demolition platform, electrostatic collector, and ore processor.
