Toys out early!

Hey Fat Valentino, can you post your pic somewhere other than Facebook...

I'm not a member and don't ever plan on being one.

I collect the old Playmates line, and was quite disappointed that the new figures don't fit in well with the old guys. Still, I did a little customizing with Nero last night, and now he fits in pretty well!

Okay, I can see that. What sort of customizing was involved, Valentino?

I just went to a Wal-Mart here in Tampa, FL to see if they had the ship yet and they didn't. :(

They're starting to hit Targets now; my local store has a bunch in, and we're typically the last to get stuff. So I'd say it's a good bet they're at any Target you can find.

I was at a local Toys R Us. They had the bridge, transporter and phaser, but no action figures or Enterprise. Likewise Target and Walmart have nothing yet. I hope to check tomorrow and see if they have anything.

A question for those that own the new Enterprise: I only plan on keeping it up for display, up against an Art Asylum Refit Enterprise and Enterprise-E? Is it display-worthy or more designed for play?

Thank you guys for the heads up. I guess I will check Target tomorrow and report back to you guys.

I would say Display Worthy... It's not really fragile, but it would not take much of a beating to ruin it either.

The detail is nice enough at a small distance to avoid cringing. ;)

I've got mine lined up on the shelf, sitting between the Art Asylums' NX-01 Enterprise and the TOS Enterprise, along with their TMP Enterprise as well.

They all appear to be very similar in scale so it's a nice setup.

daveyNY, does it seem more like a toy or more like an Art Asylum collector's item in your opinion?

...sorry was still editing post...

From a short distance they all appear to fit quite well together...

I'll try to post a half-way decent pic of them shortly...

(Just remember I'm no John Muir ;))

I checked out the Walmart here in Pace FL, since I was doing some shopping anyway...

Nothing yet. Should have checked Target. It's right next door. :)

OK... here's a few shots from the top... again, remember NOT a Pro Photographer here...
(Tried a couple of different light setups to see if that helps with the detail...)

I'm going to try to get Bow shots, next... but my stands for the A and TOS ships broke, so please bear that in mind when I post them...

I picked up a Enterprise at one of my local Walmarts here in Colorado Springs. They had about 6 more Ents and a ton of the Figs. No Bridge or Transport. After opening
it I have to say that the Enterprise is not as bad as I thought. I still Love the Original,
but this isn't a bad take on the design.

What sort of customizing was involved, Valentino?[/QUOTE]

I boiled the figure and popped off the Boots, Hands, Head, and weird weird jacket/shirt piece from the 6 inch Nero figure.

The body came from a Captain Picard in DS9 coveralls, the arms are a Rescue Outfit Worf. I drilled a bigger hole for Nero's larger neck, cut the hands off and drilled holes for Nero's tattoed hands, and popped the boots and hands into the holes.

A lot of work to match scales with a fifteen year old toy line, I realize...

found the figures and Enterprise in Middlesboro, Ky. the small figures look terrible. i found one old Spock that had a missing finger. the larger figures all look very nice. bought Spock and Old Spock. looked but didn't find any phasers or communicators. also bought a bunch of Eggo Waffles so i could get the plate.

Saw a full display today in Toys R Us. The 12-inch figures were standouts: very detailed, good likenesses--reminded me of the old Mego Star Trek figures from back in the day. The 6-inchers were not bad: I particularly liked both old and young Spock. I purchased Old Spock on a lark. The 3.75-inchers were a bit lacking, especially in likeness and paint quality. The communicator, tricorder, and phaser were also nicely done, though it was strange to hear Pine's voice saying, "Kirk to Enterprise" on the communicator.

I haven't bought a Trek geegaw in years, but I couldn't resist the weird juxtaposition of a middle aged man buying the action figure of a very elderly man :)

A Kelvin would be awesome to see produced!!!

:) It would be great adversary starship for the Narada to face off against, IMO!

[TEMPORARY THREAD HIJACK]
saddestmoon, just tried to PM you but it wouldn't let me. Just wondering if you're on Rebelscum as well? Thought I recognised the handle!

[BACK ON TOPIC]

I'm hearing really mixed things about these figures, but can't wait to get them in hand! For those who have them, would you recommend the 3.75" or the 6" versions? I was going to opt for the 3.75", but am curious..

Response to Temporary Thread Hijack:
Hey Trek Survivor!!! :) Yeah - Guilty as charged!!! :techman: I do frequent Rebelscum - although don't tell these guys... [hushed tones] or I might get the interweb bash...

What's your handle on Rebelscum?

Back on Topic: The Abramsprise lined up next to the other ships looks awesome!!! It is definately the pick of the bunch, along with the Refit Enterprise, IMO!!!

:techman:

I'm sure one of us will. Some of us can't resist making the new design better, and I can't blame them. I wouldn't pay for a toy or model and then bust it all to hell because that's not my gig or hobby but to those who can do this sort of thing more power to 'em.

I went to my local Toys R Us in Northampton (UK) and they told me the merchandise is on sale a day early, Saturday morning, i am looking forward to getting down there tomorrow.
