Toys out early!

How about a comparison

The original is better!

AGREED.

But I'm liking the new Abramsprise a little more as the release day nears. We're stuck with it and I'm trying to get into the design.

Cant wait to pick this up, although it suffers the same light bleeding problem Art Asylum's NX-01 had. Although chances are this ship was made by Art Asylum and Playmates just stuck their name on it.
Nope. It is purely Playmates. Art Asylum had nothing to do with the production of the toy (I visit there regularly).

Oooo, do you now?

Nah Im kidding, fair enough - its just that it looks so much like them, same scale, same features and the same stand (right down to the clear blue plastic) that i'd have put money on it being an AA creation.

Oh well, Thanks God. Having fun playing Flash? :P

Well, I went by my local Toys R Us today (in Pensacola) and they had sold out of all the new stuff! Hopefully, these things make it out in larger quantities, so I can find me one.

Are they selling out anywhere else, as far as anyone can tell?

I just found (4-13-09) the first wave of the 3" figures and the JJ-Prise at my local Super Walmart. (Schenectady, NY)

They had just put the packages out on the shelf so...

There appeared to be 36 figures in the box.

The figure breakdown was...
5 Kirks (Gold)
5 Pikes (Gold)
5 Quinto Spocks (Blue)
4 Nimoy Spocks (Dark Gray Outfit)
5 Neros
4 Scottys (Red)
3 Sulus (Gold)
2 Cadet Chekovs
2 Cadet McCoys
1 Uhura (Red)

They only got 4 of the JJ-Prise.

I haven't read this whole thread so I'm not sure if this has been stated, but some of the figures have parts to the Bridge and some have parts to the Transporter Room.

It's indicated on the front of the package with a sticker that says B plus a number or T plus a number.

I so bad want to get the 3/4" figures, but if I want a normal looking set I'll have to get two Spocks and two...Sulus? (Either Sulu or Chekov end up in their cadet uniforms with these figures, along with McCoy.)...

...McCoy and Chekov in standard uniforms aren't in WAVE 1 of the toys, but they'll be along in wave 2 in the Autumn. It's not like Playmates is only releasing 10 3.75" figures, so relax!

Do you know this for a fact? Where'd you hear this?

Well, I know for a fact that Wave 2 is coming in September, but not definitely which figures will be included. But by process of elimination, I'd say its a fair bet.

These Star Trek figures are just continuing a tradition stretching back to the original Star Wars figures. When Empire Strikes Back figures came out, the first wave of figures had Bespin Luke, Hoth Han Solo etc. In other words, a mixture of the characters outfits (rather than release all the "Hoth"-costumed figures together) - that's just what has happened here: Some standard uniforms, some Cadet uniforms. The rest will be along soon.

Of course, the above doesn't make sense if you've never collected SW figures...

I get the feeling that more than just toy retailers and big box outlets will carry these. I'm thinking even some of the bigger grocery chains like Kroger will get a shipment or two of the figures the way they did with last year's Indy stuff.

Yep. Some select grocery stores and even some Walgreens may also carry some of these toys just like they do the Star Wars and Batman stuff.

Picked up the Enterprise and the phaser at my local TRU today. Tres cool, IMO. The 3.75-inch figures are exactly the way I wanted them to be. I'm actually feeling giddy...

Actually I would agree with you if I didn't know better. As you said, the scale the stand etc. look very similar (the stand is actually a different design however). Still, it's encouraging that Playmates is making a scale that works with the AA ships. :)

And yes, I am having fun. I'm out to save every one of us don't you know?

Let's not get started on the "which one is better" argument again, please, everyone; it's been done elsewhere. This thread is about the new toys.

I cannot speak for others, but my comment was about the detail on the new toy. It does seem to be more detailed.

That really makes it stand out what I think they were trying to do, the new one does certainly look more contemporary next to the other, classic though she be. I think the nacelles would look better a bit more spread though like the old.

Good to hear! I can't wait for these to turn up in the UK. Really excited by them!

EDIT: Just checked the TRU.co.uk website, and the UK release date for these is given as 19th April - this Sunday! Woo-hoo! Now to try and convince the wife that I really do need them...

Not just TRU has them. I work at Target and we just got them in last night. We have both Bridge and Transporter sets, along with the Enterprise of course. Right now also, just the 3/4 figures that come with the bridge pieces. I didn't see this post the past few days, so I had no idea people were spotting them. I'm from Virginia myself of course and so I thought I would post this.
The boxes actually say Star Trek on them, so its not heard to miss them before you open it up and stock them. Wally World has them too but not the 2 sets. They did have those Barbie doll like figures.

Gotta say - The Abramsprise is now my favourite Enterprise design of all time! That is an awesome shot of them both side by side. Can't wait to pick up the Abramsprise!!!!! :)

I feel the same way. The new Enterprise is my favorite all time design. I checked my local Walmart last night and so far they're not in yet. I can't wait to get one.

I just bought two of the 5 or 6 inch figures today, Nero and elderley Spock. I must say, while they don't match the awesomness of Art Asylum/Diamond Select, they are still pretty damn good, and a definate improvement over the Playmates Trek toys of the 90s.
