TOS Sounds! TOS Sounds! (SPOILERS)

When I saw a clip of the movie on TV yesterday, they showed the scene where Kirk first sees that animal on the ice plant. I noticed the eerie discordant backgound sound they used in TOS whenever they beamed down to a strange planet. I didn't catch it in the movie the first time, so I'll be on the lookout next time.

How can anyone forgot the AWESOME TOS music for the ending credits! I stayed after all the credits to listen to the music.

When Spock neck-pinched Kirk, they had something that was clearly inspired by the musical sting whenever Spock pinched someone on the show.

All of the various TOS-sounds are nods to the fans and not at all distracting for the general audiences.

I liked all of the sound effects and sound design that I noticed, but only occasionally noticed that something was similar to TOS.

Speaking of sound... the sequence of Winona giving birth in the shuttle and George preparing to ram the Narada, done with no sound other than that rather plaintive orchestral track, was gorgeous and haunting. "Live" sound comes back in with Jim Kirk's first cries after birth.

Hell, you know everything before the title card was wonderful - possibly the closest to perfect of any sequence in the movie.

agreed, in that scene, with no sound worked great

I work in a hospital and it strikes me how similar the bridge sounds to our critical care units.

We even have a voice activated communication system much like TNG era Trek.

Screw the sounds - Didnt anyone else notice the crew of the Kelvin were rockin' TOS Communicators? The only difference I could see was that there antenna wasnt filled with holes but one big block - aside from that they were the same.

Indeed, I noticed that on my second viewing.

Also, one great part, was when the Enterprise was trying to escape the black hole at warp at the end of the movie: the very distinctive "grinding/whrwhrwhr" sound used for warp in TOS! :D

As much as I love the reuse of the transporter sound effects, this was my favorite reuse :)
