TOS SexiEst Moments

I dig this kiss a lot.

Just posted on most sexist thread, so wanted to balance with a post here. Choosing just one is very difficult. It has to include Spock of course as I always found him staring into his viewscreen sexier than Kirk in his ubiquitous torn uniform. I'll pick the scene where the Romulan commander gets interrupted by Tal knocking on the door, and looks so frustrated, like she's either going to kiss Spock's hand or bite it. Oddly enough, I find all the dialogue that surrounds this scene ridiculous and unbelievable, but when they're not talking -- oh, my goodness.

Well, there are some women who mindfuck men as well....
Like Helen Noels on the insane planet, while she has James Kirk under the influence of the hypno toad.

Instead of some mild flirtation at a Christmas party, she mindfucks him into believing that he swept her off her feet, carried her back to his cabin and marathoned her through New Years.

Well off hand I can't think of many moments in TOS which I find sexy but I am just starting to watch again so I will keep my eyes open. For me what stops many the TOS episodes being sexy is that most of the "supposedly" sexy women are pathetically weak and speak in little girl voices like Droxine in The Cloud Minders. There are of course some exceptions like Edith Keeler in City on the Edge........

That is true, but I never could really see Droxine as sexy and kept wondering "That's supposed to be sexy?" I had a similar reaction to Rand (though at least she was good-looking, unlike Droxine) and those women from "Mudd's Women"... But there are exceptions - like the Romulan Commander, Marlena Moreau, Nona from "A Private Little War", Zarabeth, Edith Keeler...

The actress that played Droxine talks like that in other things I've seen her in. In "The Incredible Mr Limpet" with Don Knotts, she plays a fish.

^ so the real issue is that you don't care for blondes?
If "blondes" in your vocabulary means whiny airheads with ridiculous hairstyles, little girl voices and 'deer in the headlights' look (or alternatively, a constant long-suffering over-emotional female look a la Chapel), then yes...

But Zarabeth was blonde the last time I checked. So was Vina, and Elizabeth Dehner, and Kelinda, and Julie Newmar (whatever her character was called), but they don't fit the above description.

Devil, I wouldn't say that Rand fits your description at all (well, except for the crazy hairdo!;)) She was actually quite a strong character in the few episodes she was in. We can fault her claim in "The Enemy Within", that she wouldn't have reported (evil)Kirk's attempted assault if it hadn't been witnessed, but I'd balance that with the way she handled herself in "Charlie X".

Now consider some of your exceptions -- an apparently strong fleet commander who lets her Vulcan fetish make her careless in the middle of an interstellar crisis, Mirror Marlena and Nona are basically sleeping their way to the top...

Sexy is as sexy does.

I wasn't talking about how the characters are written (and female roles were mostly written badly), but about the actresses and how they came across on the screen. Rand always had that confused deer in the headlights look and came across more as a damsel in distress than anything. OTOH, the actress who played the Romulan Commander had lots of charisma and presence. Nichelle Nichols brought some of that to the screen, too, even though her character was often written as girly ("Captain, I'm frightened") or just underwritten.

OK, but still I wouldn't say Rand always came across that way. In fact, she was quite expressive when she had lines and a meatier part.

I was quite surprised to see Nurse Chapel in there as I did not consider as one of the "airheads". In some of the story-lines she was quite a strong character. I wasn't too keen on her characterisation in "What Are Little Girls.....?" simpering over her Roger.

Oh Janice, I've got a present for you!

^ Not airhead, but a typical 1960s needy female who seems constantly on the verge of tears. It didn't help that she was always either pining after Spock, or fawning after Roger (even after learning he was a megalomaniac madman criminal).

or fawning after Roger (even after learning he was a megalomaniac madman criminal).

Like McCoy continuing to protect “Nancy,” even after learning it was a salt vampire, and while it was attacking Kirk. If Chapel’s an airhead then “Bones” must be short for “Bonehead”!

It helped that McCoy had plenty of other stuff to do on the show... he wasn't pining and fawning over a woman every time we saw him.
