From Simon&Schuster's site, no blurb yet.

Meh. If it were by anyone else I would be interested, but I have no interest in a new MAM story.

I might get this; Wrath of Khan is the only Star Trek film I rewatch. Also, I seem to remember McCoy wasn't in a lot of scenes in the film between the scene on the Regula planet and the later scene where Spock transfers his katra to him. That's quite a lot of time to set a related story in.

Michael A. Martin? No thanks.

I'm curious how he keeps getting work yet we've seen nothing from Andy Mangels since the split?

Meh. I'll pass. Martin's writing is just dull dull dull. I haven't read his last ENT book or the Titan book though I have both sitting on my shelf. I just can't bring myself to read them or any of his future work.

I can't help but wonder of this will be the last time MAM will write Star Trek. We have no insight into how his novels sell, but if you take the opinions on this forum as a guideline, you'd think his latest novels had poor salesfigures. I know I purchased Fallen Gods, as my final effort to try and like his work, but I know of plenty on this forum who had already given up by then.

So yeah, if this one doesn't sell, I can't really imagine S&S calling him back for more.

Putting aside Michael A. Martin's writing abilities, I find this cover lacking somewhat. The shadows on the Enterprise look all wrong and the whole thing looks as if it were taken from Star Trek V, complete with poor special/visual effects.
I know we shouldn't judge books by their covers, but it's too late, I've already sent the jury home. I won't be adding this eBook to my collection.

Does anybody know what why Andy Mangels isn't returning?

Anyway, I like the cover - except that it cuts of the Enterprise. Would've put in the middle. After all, the ship is there to provide eye candy. The soothing blu background is to my liking, though.

Andy Mangels posted on here a bit right when the first MAM solo book was announced, and while he was trying to be professional, he made it clear that it was not HIS choice to stop co-writing with Martin.

I got the impression that Martin just decided he didn't want to work with him anymore and got the next contract himself without telling Andy, and that was that.

I'm just curious as to why Pocket hasn't given Mangels a chance to write a solo novel? After reading some of Martin's solo work, it's easy to see who the better half of their team was.

I'm still pissed that IDW passed on the Andy Mangels\Tim Russ comic they pitched. That seemed like it could have been awesome IMO.

Really? In my opinion the quality of their writing already got downhill when they both were working together. Actually I would argue the absolute low-point was Kobayashi Maru, a novel that was written by both of them.

Not to say that Martin's solo efforts are anywhere near the quality of their first few novels, but to blame him alone would be false IMO.

We just don't know, do we? For all we know, the quality of their team was degrading because of Martin getting more infuence in the writing then Mangels.
The only way to really know, is for us to have a Trek novel by Mangels himself and compare.

You actually argue my point somewhat. We don't know why the writing of Martin (& Mangels) has declined, so I only wanted to point out that it isn't as easy as "Martin sucks and Mangels always saved his ass".

FWIW I would welcome a solo effort by Mangels.

Somebody got paid to make that cover? Really?

My guess is that eBook "covers" are somewhat low priotity and hence we get those rather lame ship in space covers.

.

I agreed with that statement completely. Perhaps we should start an email campaign?

In my opinion, the Mangels/Martin work for Marco was superior to the Mangels/Martin work for Margaret, so the fault may lie with the editorial feedback they received on their later books. The fault may lie there; she may have accepted work from the duo that Marco wouldn't have.

However, perhaps no one could have made the brief for The Good That Men Do work.

Had to check, it is April 28th.

Mmmh, could have thought of a better birthday present for me. ;)

Does anyone remember who edited Forged in Fire? I was surprised how uninteresting that book turned out. That and tGtMD was the point where it started to decline for me.
