Andy Mangels posted on here a bit right when the first MAM solo book was announced, and while he was trying to be professional, he made it clear that it was not HIS choice to stop co-writing with Martin.
I got the impression that Martin just decided he didn't want to work with him anymore and got the next contract himself without telling Andy, and that was that.

I'm just curious as to why Pocket hasn't given Mangels a chance to write a solo novel? After reading some of Martin's solo work, it's easy to see who the better half of their team was.

Really? In my opinion the quality of their writing already got downhill when they both were working together. Actually I would argue the absolute low-point was Kobayashi Maru, a novel that was written by both of them.
Not to say that Martin's solo efforts are anywhere near the quality of their first few novels, but to blame him alone would be false IMO.
We just don't know, do we? For all we know, the quality of their team was degrading because of Martin getting more infuence in the writing then Mangels.
The only way to really know, is for us to have a Trek novel by Mangels himself and compare.
Somebody got paid to make that cover? Really?
You actually argue my point somewhat. We don't know why the writing of Martin (& Mangels) has declined, so I only wanted to point out that it isn't as easy as "Martin sucks and Mangels always saved his ass".
FWIW I would welcome a solo effort by Mangels.

In my opinion, the Mangels/Martin work for Marco was superior to the Mangels/Martin work for Margaret, so the fault may lie with the editorial feedback they received on their later books. The fault may lie there; she may have accepted work from the duo that Marco wouldn't have.
However, perhaps no one could have made the brief for The Good That Men Do work.
