TOS-R marathon on Space...

Ive been watching the remastereds here on a local station at 10 at night. I have the original sets on dvd and will play them at the same time as the remastereds to compare the effects and see what they cut out. I have to say I still enjoy the original effects. Yeah the new ones are interesting to look at but Im not going to rush out and buy the.

The station that plays them has a poor signal and the episodes arent perfectly clear. The new effects actually seem to blend in better with lower resolution.

I own all three seasons of TOS-R ---- the new effects really enhance the episodes. A much needed facelift for TOS!

Im not saying they are horrible. Just that I like the original effects better. They are what I grew up with and fit with the episodes. The new ones are interesting to look at though but I really dont care to have them on dvd.

I've voted on Space twice already. And I'm pretty sure I didn't vote the same episodes each time. For curiosity's sake I tried voting for the most F/X laden episodes to see what they've done.

I find it alternatingly hilarious and shocking how uninformed many Americans are and how many outright lies people are accepting as fact.
Hold it right there, bub! As an American, I have to tell ya....
you're fairly spot on.:shifty::rolleyes:

^^ You're not alone. I'm Canadian and we have our share of people who believe the craziest things. Just mention the idea of having some degree of private funded health care in conjunction with public funded health care and some jump off the deep end with accusations that someone is trying to bring in American style health care which no one is proposing in the slightest.

And the fact is we already have a measure of private funded health care in Canada.

As is often the case the truth or most effective approach is likely a mixture of the two, something which some European nations have achieved quite effectively.

Now back to our regularly scheduled subject.

I just realized I'm off work Monday so I don't really have to set my dvd recorder for anything. I'll be home.

I was up at 6am today because I couldn't sleep anymore and so I turned the TV to check the weather and temperature. The channel was already set on Space where I just happened to catch the announcement that Space will be syndicating TOS-R daily Mon-Fri. after the Labour Day Marathon.

So not only will we get to see the ten most voted episodes on Monday, we'll then get to see the rest of TOS-R all the way through all 79 episodes.

I was hoping for that - glad to hear it's a go!

So we're 3 episodes in - which ones have been chosen so far?

I would watch it, but my wife's claimed the TV for herself :)

10. The Tholian Web
9. A Piece Of The Action
8. The Enterprise Incident
7. Balance of Terror
6. Amok Time

The episodes are being shown uncut, so there are not many commercials. :)

Have really enjoyed it so far! They have just begun the one I looked forward to the most: The Doomsday Machine.

Great job on the part of Space for preserving the original commercial breaks, too!

To be honest I'm a bit disappointed The Doomsday Machine is only at number 5 - it's one of the best examples of the remastered episodes, and I get the feeling that the top two are going to be the obvious favourites of The City on the Edge of Forever and The Trouble with Tribbles - excellent episodes they might well be, but not really deserved winners of a Remastered Star Trek poll...

Well, we all have our own individual preferences and opinions...but these episodes were voted on/decided by the fans. Remastered or not, people will vote for their favourites. (I did not vote for A Piece of The Action or Amok Time, but enjoyed watching them both.)

Using your critieria, an episode like The Ultimate Computer should be airing --- although the remastered effects in this episode were, in my opinion, underwhelming.

I'm secretly optimistic for The Ultimate Computer myself - if only because it was the TOS-R episode I saw after we finally got digital cable and I realised I could pick up a CW channel which showed it :)

I think the problem with a poll like this is that as you say people will always choose their favourites , so although there might be lesser episodes which are ripe for demonstrating the remastering (such as Court Martial with the new very nice close up-exterior shots of the Enterprise), they will be pushed aside for other more popular episodes.

So, playing the speculation game, I suspect the other 4 are going to be the aforementioned City and Tribbles, as well as Where No Man Has Gone Before, although I'm not sure on the fourth - I'm ruling out The Menagerie as I suspect they wouldn't show it as it's a) a 2-part story, b) virtually identical to The Cage which has been confirmed and c) has already been shown in Canada; albeit in the movie theatre.

Didn't think of those two - Mirror, Mirror would well be a good candidate for the fourth one - I'm not convinced on Journey to Babel though - while it's an excellent one I think WNMHGB might just pip it :)

Updated List...
10. The Tholian Web
9. A Piece of the Action
8. The Enterprise Incident
7. Balance of Terror
6. Amok Time
5. The Doomsday Machine
4. The Trouble With Tribbles
3. ?
2. ?
1. ?

I am still guessing that Journey to Babel, Mirror Mirror, and City will fill the final three slots...(I am also assuming that The Menagerie will not be included since The Cage is showing after the #1 episode...)
