Since I don't have any TOS on DVD yet, I probably will.

When I'll be actually able to afford them? That's the real question.

Unsure myself, while i'm getting a huge kick out of TOS-R, I just got the TOS DVD sets while they were on sale at WallyWorld, seeing it took awhile before TOS was on sale it might be a long time before I grab TOS-R.

Besides i'm recording the episodes to VHS as they are shown on TV, i'll wait till my tapes have worn out from watching them before I buy them on DVD in the far future.

This might take awhile ;)

TOS-R will probably the first high-def DVD content I buy, whenever I decide on a high-def DVD player.

Also, I would not be surprised at all if these HD DVDs/BluRay/Whatever come with both remastered and non remastered versions all in one package.

Most likely yes. Of course it'll depend on the retail price, and whether they'll be available on standard DVD.

I submitted “Unsure” as my answer since I have a few caveats attached to my purchase of these DVDs if they come out. The most prominent of these is if the original “unaltered” versions that were put out on the current set will be included as part of the package. If they are, I would be willing to plunk down the exorbitant amount of quatloos that Paramount seems so apt at fleecing from my pockets since economic obligations have prevented me from acquiring the current batch of DVDs.

I would like their inclusion for two purposes/people residing in me – for the preservationist/purist/nostalgia-ist that has always appreciated the technical merit of those folks back in the 60’s that were able to achieve stellar and believable effects which swept me away to the unknown with technology not far removed from bearskins and stone knives who would like to revisit those episodes and return to the simplicity of enveloping himself in the myth of Kirk, his mistress, and their valiant crew – the other would be for the tech buff/fan boy that loves kewel effects and ‘splosions but also wonders “how or why did they do that?”. Wait, add a third person/reason – the “remake/cover buff” – I am obsessed with collecting original source books, music, and film and then investigating and collecting all of the subsequent reinterpretations, remakes, and “covers” of that original – i.e. “Who Goes There?” to The Thing from Another World to The Thing. To satisfy this last want may eventually wear me down to acquire this disks even if the originals were not included and required a "double dip".

My other prominent caveat would be if the technology/media that they elect to produce these in was in the best scenario “staying” or, at the very least, “transparent”. If they elect to go with some fancy pants tech that is too specialized and fettered by licensing issues to blossom into a “staying” technology, then you can count me out.

Probably. I never wound up getting all of TOS on DVD -- just the first season. I also have the entire series on VHS, so I'd definitely get the remastered versions.

Plus, we don't know if these versions will become mainstream or not so they'll be nice to have anyway. :)

Yes, this would be an ideal purchase for me for the Next Generation format.

Agreed.

In fact, it works out better this way. Now, it'll be easier to justify double-dipping when I eventually start upgrading to the next format. At the least, maybe it'll keep my wife off of my back. ;)

I'd probably get them on HD optical disc, but I'm boycotting all HD disc formats until DVD Jon or his successor breaks them.

I'll buy them on HD-DVD or Blu-Ray, and I hope they do include the originals as well. I already have the originals, but I hate to think that some folks will ONLY have TOS-R as their reference for Star Trek. The original should be preserved and passed on in new formats for historical accuracy.
