TOS on DVD

You know, I was debating doing that myself (I can probably swing a Blu-Ray player, but no way a HDTV - at this time). How does Blu-Ray look on Standard Def?
Well, it looks as good as something could possibly look on a 480p TV. If you have a 'really good' 480p TV--it will look 'really good'.
It will look better than most older edition DVDs of most given movies since most are 'restored' to some extent for Blu-ray release.
So I guess they'd look as good as the very best DVD movie would on the same TV and you'd have access to all the other features in the meantime.
I know having money lying around for a new HDTV is not something most of us have---
But, really good HDTVs are starting at $400 for 32 inch models and bargins and sales can be found.
The problem most folks have is that their standard Tv is still working just fine and they don't want to replace a perfectly good TV with a several hundred dollar purchase. Understandable.
But as the old TVs die off, people will find that HDTVs up to 46 inch aren't really an 'arm and a leg.' Also flat-panal HDTVs weighs probably 1/5 of what an old CRT TV (or 'projection') of similar size did so you can bring it home yourself without having to pay for delivery or have a really huge SUV or pick-up truck to haul it.
They take up less space as well and if they fall on your kid (don't ask)----they won't crush him/her!!

I've been using my PS2 for my DVD player for the past few years now, but I am holding off buying new DVDs (not that I buy many to begin with), because I would rather wait and get them in the newer format.
But since I can probably score a Blu-Ray player for about $120, I was debating about maybe doing that, and catch up with a HDTV in a few years. But I wasn't sure on how compatible it would be with a standard def TV.

Me: "I want to get _ _ _ _ ."
Wife: "But the _ _ _ _ we have now works fine!"
Me: "But the new _ _ _ _ is so much bettter!"
Wife: "Maybe for Christmas."---------which is what she says in the spring---in the fall it's, "Maybe for your birthday."

Well bummer for the folks who waited....it hit bottom (i guess) and bounced back up to $48.99 at Amazon !!!
They must've got flooded with folks pulling the trigger when it hit the lower price and they're adjusting.
Watch out for some of the cheaper BD players that have been popping up. They usually don't have the network connection on the back, which means you won't be able to use the BD Live function that some discs are programmed with for extra bonus features and such. Firmware upgrades also happen through that connection.
^^^Didn't put the quotes on 'off-brand' to indicate you used that phrase--simply trying to point out there are inexpensice good brand players and cheap 'off-brand' players.

I'm just saying....
I call Sylvania, Magnavox & Funai 'off-brand', but EVERY time I go to a store these days I see Sonys, Samsungs, Sharps and Panasonics marked way down.

When the price comes down I'm seriously considering getting these sets. More for the remastering of the original versions rather than for the new f/x sequences. While watching the TOS-R marathon on Sept. 7th on Space in Canada I was not only struck by the enhanced colour and detail but by the enriched sound as well.
Ditto.The day Star Trek TMP Director's Cut is released on Blu-ray is the day I will consider buying a player for it.
Serenity looks amazing on my upscale DVD player, as does Blade Runner. Only the promise of an improvement in TMP Director's Cut would MAKE me upgrade at this point. And it looks FANTASTIC as is. But more detail on the Vulcan statues and V'Ger itself, and I'm in.
