"And the parting shot with the Hathor breaking away from the Enterprise made me think of The Undiscovered Country."
Yep. That's where I borrowed it from :-) In fact, yes, that shot is a combination of Trouble with Tribbles and the end of Undiscovered Country.
Anyways, I've been adding even more subtle details over the course of the afternoon...been sitting here with those Smithsonian reference images and have tweaked a few more things out (some bump mapping and a bit more shading on the hull and nacelles, I missed the numbers under the pylons, etc)., as well as further refining the lights and setting up another animation test. Basically the next animation test is going to be an "extended" version of that second part of the animation I posted earlier (with Enterprise, Hathor and K-7)...includes the same camera movements, but I started it earlier to have the camera do a beauty shots around and past the side on the Enteprrise before it comes around front and heads up the middle of the two ships. The first animation tests were all 900 frames...this one is 1400 frames. If that all goes well, then tomorrow or Sunday I'll probably start working on tweaking out the textures and lights for the Galileo to be consistent with the new work and do some test animation with her as well.
In other words - she's getting there.
