TOS: Child of Two Worlds - Pre-Release Discussion

Re: TOS: Child of Two Worlds - Discussion

The Indian woman (whose name escapes me at the moment) is serving on the bridge throughout.

Basically, there was no way to reconcile all the different versions of Pike's crew we've seen in the books and comics, so I cherry-picked the parts that worked for this book . ..

That's great! While I understand that not all continuities are compatible, I appreciate that nod towards previous works and didn't throw them out of the airlock.

Re: TOS: Child of Two Worlds - Discussion

Heck, the Pike era lasted over a decade, so crewmembers would've come and gone over the years. It's rather frustrating that most Pike-era books and comics have clumped tightly around "The Cage" rather than spreading out to explore the whole era (Legacy is the only one that really tries that, though only in flashback vignettes).

Well, Burning Dreams at least tries to cover Pike's entire life, from childhood to his existence on Talos IV.

Re: TOS: Child of Two Worlds - Discussion

Yeah, Burning Dreams also features several sections from very late in Pike's command of the Enterprise, from what I remember, including from not long prior to his promotion to Fleet Captain. I'm glad that Greg's novel will be pushing the timeline forward a bit past "The Cage" (into 2255), which is after the final New Voyages comics ended.

Re: TOS: Child of Two Worlds - Discussion

I received a notification from bookdepository that this has shipped...

Re: TOS: Child of Two Worlds - Discussion

Apparently it's already been spotted on sale in Australia, and I got my author copies last week or so.

They look lovely, btw. :)

Re: TOS: Child of Two Worlds - Discussion

Scored copy today at Books-a-Million, a week before the Trek titles are typically available.

It's finally also available on Amazon.de. I've just ordered it. Looking forward to another high quality work by Greg Cox. ;)
