Wait a minute. You mean the nude jumping jacks are REAL? I thought they were just another sick product of Shatmandu's imagination.

Hey guys!
i have a question: (sorry to break the mood)
Where does the "nude jumping jacks" joke come from? Is it strictly a BBS thing?
I ask, because last night on Fox's FRINGE, they mentioned Walter use to do nude jumping jacks....it was very random the way it was put in....and i was wondering...
Orci, Kurtzman and Abrams are the producers on the show....i don't think any of them wrote last night's episode ....but still...it was very strange!
Rat Boy (i dont suppose thats from Malcolm in the Middle?), I'd stake my reputation (as dicey as that is) that it WAS inspired by the BBS. It was just too random (and written into the script JUST to be able to say it).
Now i ask thee, how cool was that???!!!
Im glad to hear you thought it too. You've made my day!

It's a vague Simpson's reference tied into something I did when I was little.
And don't forget: Fringe also had a sombrero joke in its first episode, so it does make you wonder who's looking at what we post around here.
Edit: And if Leonard Nimoy shows up in an afro wig, I'm going to literally die laughing.

Bart eating drywall?
I haven't been watching the show, but I looked it up. The writer of last night's episode ("Fracture") also wrote an episode of Enterprise, and he wouldn't be the first (or even the second) writer from that show to have been reading stuff here. It may be coincidence, but then again, it may not....last night on Fox's FRINGE, they mentioned Walter use to do nude jumping jacks....

So did I.
I haven't had a chance to watched Fringe. Guess I'll have to start!
If it was something one of their writers picked up from here, that's very cool. And like RatBoy, if Nimoy gets an afro or is called Carl, I'll burst.
That would be a monumental undertaking, even if all of the old caption contest threads were still around. Most of it was pretty spontaneous, the way the majority of captions written are, and some just happened to catch on. It's complicated even more by the fact that the contests in other forums all tend to cross-pollinate with the ones in this forum, as well as with various Photoshop threads, etc..As an aside, would it be possible to have a thread somewhere, possibly stickied, giving the origin and background info on all of the running gags that the BBS has developed?
Sombreros, Conway Twitty, Carl Spock, Grignak, that alternate universe where everyone is stoned...all that stuff that really confuses the newcomers.
