TOS Bridge Crew: Cat-Person or Dog-Person?

Captain Tracy

Commander
Red Shirt
I was having a discussion about the types of people - personality-wise - that leads them to be either a 'Cat Person' or a 'Dog Person'. For example, Kirk is obviously a 'Dog Guy'; and Spock, overtly an obvious 'Cat Guy'.

Too easy; and, it just fits.

So the discussion became: "... but what about ___?"

1. McCoy;
2. Scott;
3. Sulu;
4. Chekov;
5. Uhura;'

Yes, there are many people who are BOTH; but, here's the challenge: If you had guess which character is best suited to EITHER a dog OR a cat,... "Who gets what?".

The answers and rational we came-up with were quite interesting, and sometime even made us re-evaluate these characters through a very different, though familiar lens.

So, of those characters listed above, who do think is a Cat-Person, and, who is a Dog-Person?

They are all cats ;)

The ones who liked the tribbles are probably cat people.
Heh, I had a similar thought, when thinking about which way Uhura would lean.

1. McCoy: doesn't strike me as a pet person, so neither
2. Scott: dog
3. Sulu: dog
4. Chekov: cat
5. Uhura: cat

McCoy definitely dreams of sitting on his porch with a lazy old Basset hound.

You left out M'Ress. ;)

I’ve had both dogs and cats who I’ve loved but I disagree with the first two.

I think Kirk would totally have a cat. I see Kirk after his day’s mission is done lounging around his quarters with a cat purring on his lap. Kirk luxuriates in life.

And a cat would just be a pointless curiosity to Spock. Owning a cat is totally illogical. But dogs have skills and are attentive. Their ethos is basically the Vulcan “we live to serve.” I could totally see Spock with a well trained German Shepherd.
