TOS and the duplicate Earths

I'm going with Omega and Miri's World slipped through a rift in time-space from some alternate reality.

Miri is over 300 years old so tha leaves out it being an Earth Colony. Similarly the Yangs and Kohms are over 1000 years old.

I think ignoring it ruins a lot of the fun.
I agree.

I see a lot of speculation in this thread about these puzzling "parallel earths." There's lots of speculative explanations in the Trek literature as well. (I just recently found yet another in one of the Shatnerverse novels.)

Isn't that what good science fiction is supposed to do - challenge one's preconceived notions and inspire one's imagination? Simply labelling anything that doesn't seem "normal" as something silly to be ignored seems a rather limiting way to approach speculative science fiction.
