I had honestly never heard about this until I read Captain's Logs. Hard to believe Nimoy had the ending line changed to "another crew" instead of "a new generation" due to Michael Dorn's comments.
I much prefer the final version, because at first you surmise that it may either be the Enterprise-B or the Enterprise-D crew that Kirk is referring to in his final captain's log, but when he says "Boldly going where no man...where no one has gone before." The story goes how Michael Dorn bragged (boasted) to interviewers that Star Trek 7 was going to be a Next Generation film, effectively trying to take away some of the thunder from the original cast.A beaker full of death said:
