Torchwood season 4

Oh, and Torchwood season 4 starts filming in February according to folks on location at the DW filming. RTD has as much as said any future series will be called Torchwood: Story title as in Torchwood: Children Of Earth. It's unlikely to be about Torchwood 3 guarding the rift - they're just Torchwood now - as he says it's an umbrella for telling good SF drama. the show had "found its tone," so future outings would definitely be one continuous story - possibly five episodes, possibly longer. But definitely, there'll be no return to "monster of the week" type stories. He liked the way the miniseries had "Torchwood" followed by the subtitle "Children Of Earth," making it part of the show's title. So that'll probably happen again next time.

Added Davies: "Torchwood has become an umbrella for telling a good story. This wasn't anything to do with Cardiff, or the rift," or any other standard elements of the show.

If the show does come back, "everyone who survived" will return as well. But the show will also do what "Children Of Earth" did with John Frobisher and the other new supporting cast — introduce a whole new set of characters. Davies doesn't believe in replacing a character after he/she is killed off, because it seems heartless, like buying a new puppy right after your dog dies. That's why, in "Children Of Earth," he deliberately introduced a "replacement" for Owen — and then shot him.

Despite RTD saying probably 5 episode seasons, Barrowman thinks it'll be 13 in this interview:

5 episodes or 55, i dont care, after 'Children of Earth' any possibility of Torchwood is something to look forward to.

If I was forced to lay money, given the current controller's enthusiasm for week-long events, I'd go for 10 in total, split into a couple of five day runs. But that's purely speculation.

How incredibly true! It's funny...once they got past the "glitz & shock" of their potty-mouthed, over-sexed seasons, TORCHWOOD has actually found what makes it tick. Like he said, it's the perfect umbrella for good storytelling.

I'm loving they're getting away from The Rift, The Hub, and all the other super-scifi silly crap like that. I like this rogue band of freedom fighters they became in CoE. I hope there's more of that without being a retread. :techman:

Hmmm.....this makes me want to dig-up my Torchwood thread again....

I think that's what we'll get as well - probably a 5-day run in July and January '11 but all filmed together as one season.

If there are 13, then maybe a 3-night Xmas-set one, say set on Xmas Eve/Day/Boxing Day but aired earlier in December - say the weekend or two before Xmas.

Of course, that claim came from a Security Guard on set, as opposed to the people who actually make the show, who've repeatedly said they havn't started talks on a 4th series yet.

Plus Barrowman will still be in LCAF in February.

Barrowman's comments certainly don't seem to fit with RTD's, but I include them for completeness.

And I assume a security firm would know who they're securing. Though I'd also expect them to like having a larf with the fans watching! You pays your money (well, no, it's free) and takes your choice.

That's what I was thinking. I think it'll make John Barrowman happy while still keeping the epic feel of series 3.

I imagine that the next season, there would be no Torchwood. Jack would be gone and Gwen probably would be too distracted by her baby. I liked Lois' character, but no Torchwood probably makes it difficult for her to have a role (maybe she can be involved somehow, just not as Torchwood). By the end of the series, it would be nice for them to be reestablished (even if they don't continue underground in Cardiff).
