Re: TORCHWOOD: Miracle Day episode two "Rendition" disscussions & comm

but what crime did torchwood do to get renditioned in the first place. I mean it was the cia who were looking into files that they should'nt be looking in the first place right? and they did'nt cause miracle day to happen.

Re: TORCHWOOD: Miracle Day episode two "Rendition" disscussions & comm

My guess is the 456 amendments cover rendition for intelligence purposes probably related to extraterrestrial or paranormal activity. Essentially, it would be a legalization (if that) of the extraordinary rendition that is practiced anyway (apparently with UK approval). It's not extradition for prosecution.

Re: TORCHWOOD: Miracle Day episode two "Rendition" disscussions & comm

Have you seen the past 3 seasons of Torchwood? The answers are mostly there.

Re: TORCHWOOD: Miracle Day episode two "Rendition" disscussions & comm

Can't quite put my finger on why but this thread makes me smile...

Re: TORCHWOOD: Miracle Day episode two "Rendition" disscussions & comm

yeah we are learning english law cool. looking forward to tonight. now with the new series starting do you think the books will be back?

Re: TORCHWOOD: Miracle Day episode two "Rendition" disscussions & comm

I have a feeling that all of this may tie in with the Omega symbols that were seen in A Good Man Goes to War. If timelord technology can make Jack immortal, then maybe only timelord technology could make him mortal.

This is like watching a live-action cartoon, it doesn't feel connected to reality at all.

Re: TORCHWOOD: Miracle Day episode two "Rendition" disscussions & comm

The new Torchwood or this thread?

Re: TORCHWOOD: Miracle Day episode two "Rendition" disscussions & comm

^^ the episode, thread notwithstanding

ETA: They just spent an entire episode getting off the plane.

Re: TORCHWOOD: Miracle Day episode two "Rendition" disscussions & comm

Getting on off the plane?

Getting off on the plane?

Theme Music was back.

Felt good.

Jack looks old.

Rhys needs to show up at the last minute with something powerful.

I hate it that because Torchowood is about keeping alien tech out of circulation that they prefer not to overly use alien tech when they kit up, because they really need an advantage here now that the entire world is against them.

I'm surprised at how easily you can snap a neck in the Torchwood universe. Maybe the immortality thing replaced human spines with twizzlers.

I thought this episode was pretty good, and better than the slightly confusing part 1. The writers seem to be doing a great job of thinking through the odd little consequences of nobody dying – e.g. the sick and not-dead as breeding grounds for drug resistant bacteria. What they're doing less well is making the character's motivations make a lick of sense; I still have no idea why the different factions are always yelling at, wrestling with or trying to kill each other. I get that there's tension in the air and we have groups working at cross-purposes, but it all feels arbitrary. That said, I had a better grasp on what was at stake this week than last, when I had no idea what was going on with anybody.

I'm also wondering if Captain Jack has been adequately explained for the non-initiated. They seem to be dancing around his whole "time-traveling immortal" aspect, which is odd given the immortality issue. It's been heavily alluded to, but nobody has sat down and explained what's going on with him to anybody else, even though it seems like it would be helpful to do so.

Re: TORCHWOOD: Miracle Day episode two "Rendition" disscussions & comm

Jack would just say: "It's a long story."

Pretty good episode. Was on the edge of my seat with the whole using the medical panel to McGyver a cure for Jack's poison. How long exactly has Jack been back on earth anyways? And is this event caused by extra terrestrials?

Re: TORCHWOOD: Miracle Day episode two "Rendition" disscussions & comm

So many opportunities to really explore the ramifications of Miracle Day and we're focused on Torchwood on a Plane and the goofiest CIA unit since Maxwell Smart (hell, they're led by "Newman!!!" for crissakes).

The cute runaround looking for the arsenic cure would have been better served on Doctor Who I think. The CIA watches tabloid TV? And where would Oswald Danes get friendly chat airtime like that? Why was he even on that show? I wouldn't let Rex manage a McDonalds.

It just feels wasted, I just think this plot could be used to make a much more arresting and involved story.

Jack looks old.

Well, if nothing else, they can now easily reconcile Jack's immortality against any aging on Barrowman's part.

Re: TORCHWOOD: Miracle Day episode two "Rendition" disscussions & comm

The Master trilogy in season 3 mentioned that Jack does age (Although very slowly).

Re: TORCHWOOD: Miracle Day episode two "Rendition" disscussions & comm

Oh, and I think RTD researched how the CIA works by watching 24.

Re: TORCHWOOD: Miracle Day episode two "Rendition" disscussions & comm

The British Government fell for being America's bitch in the last series of Torchwood.

What lesson did that teach the next batch of politicians?

"Try again, fail better."

Almost the exact same scene played out in that Agatha Christie episode of Doctor Who.

Watching Torchwood makes me so glad that RTD isn't with Doctor Who anymore.

Re: TORCHWOOD: Miracle Day episode two "Rendition" disscussions & comm

I thought this was fine. The interesting thing is, because I'm spoiler free, I have no idea at all where it will end up, which is great. :)

Actually, not just the Torchwood universe. Pretty much every fictional universe. Ever see Jack Bauer in action in 24?

That said, in most films and TV shows I've seen where a regular human (a spy, a villain, whatever) performs the "head twist neck snap" the head usually doesn't end up spun round 180 degrees on the neck...

Anyway, the episode hit the usual 2nd-episode doldrums but the action on the plane was fun and back on the ground it's nice to see the DW universe continuing its run of cute redheads...

It just feels wasted, I just think this plot could be used to make a much more arresting and involved story.

You can't look at the individual episodes of Miracle Day as standalones. They're part of the puzzle. And I think the episode hit on many ramifications of Miracle Day - the antibiotics/infections angle was quite interesting. Remember, they don't have to reveal squat until the final chapter, just like most good mystery novels.

I've not watched 24, no, so I can't speak to that. Perhaps I haven't paid close enough attention to other shows, but I thought like Agent What's-His-Name gave an even less convincing than usual fake head twist when did it. He just sort of smacked either side of the Lady-Whose-Name-I-Can't-Recall's head and her neck snapped.
