^ I thought it was something like that but wasn't quite sure if that was the only meaning behind it. I knew it was meant to be some kind of mass conscience thingy.

Re: Torchwood: MD 4x05 - The Categories Of Life (Grade/Discuss) SPOILE

I assume it just she wanted him to use religions phrases (Angels) as that is generally the best way to sell something to the US.

more to the point isnt the book of revelation, the end of days? that is hardly the something you want attached to your company logo.
I think you're answering a question that wasn't asked.

Re: Torchwood: MD 4x05 - The Categories Of Life (Grade/Discuss) SPOILE

Revelation is also the book where people are raised to eternal life. I can imagine people getting carried away when knowing they can't die.

Re: Torchwood: MD 4x05 - The Categories Of Life (Grade/Discuss) SPOILE

I was expecting something nasty to one of the main four characters not someone like Vera. Although I should have expected it...Russell can be a lot like Joss Whedon with his characters at times.

Well, this episode was written by Whedon veteran Jane Espenson, so I'm not surprised.

Re: Torchwood: MD 4x05 - The Categories Of Life (Grade/Discuss) SPOILE

And why was the Dead is Dead guy at the Danes thing? Isn't Danes all "life is life" and shit?

Danes was one of many speakers, no?

The really weird part is that the guy wearing the Dead is Dead shirt was actually cheering for Danes, which you wouldn't expect someone with that opinion to do.

My guess is, production wanted to show off their "Dead is Dead" t-shirt and didn't care if it was logical.

I took that to mean Danes convinced him he was right. I can't see that being something that was stuck in for the hell of it, it was probably intentional.

^ Yeah Oswald turned the crowd onto "his" side of the argument through the power and charisma of his speech. He is being used as a "prophet" type character to promote Miracle Day and as mentioned before to help identify the event with PhiCorp and it seems to be working.

And when he said that they were all "angels"... I can't have been the only one that wondered if all this wasn't just some redundant timeline adventure that was producing the secret origin of the Weeping Angels?

I hope not. Doubt it bit too much of a leap.

Re: Torchwood: MD 4x05 - The Categories Of Life (Grade/Discuss) SPOILE

Well they wouldn't borrow from "Who" considering the new audience's ignorancy.

Jack's got to wondering about the excellence of his education that shit like this was missed out, but then by the 25th century (Vicki's 25th Century), school consisted of an hour a week hooked up to the learning computers, which sounds like Dollhouse technology.

Although "The 21st Century, that's when it's all going to change."

Thnigs are certainly changing, even if he was seeming to just quote that guy from the 1999 flashback.

I liked the deleted scene in Last of the Time Lords where the Doctor asks Jack what that's supposed to mean, and Jack just says "honestly, I don't know. I just think it sounds good."

Considering he abandoned both speeches and ad-libbed, I don't find that very likely.

Though in the flashback episode at the end of season 2, we found out that Jack stole the slogan from his old boss after he went crazy and killed everyone.

On the other hand, it does make sense as Jack making up plausible bullshit. I mean, you could say that about anything. The 20th century saw the World Wars, the rise of computers, cars, and airplanes. That changed everything. The 19th century had the beginning of the industrial era. Changed everything. The 18th century had beginning of democracy as the chic form of government for the modern age, and so on.

A century is a long time, and pretty much all of them can be plausibly described as revolutionary. Jack could remember three things about the 21st century from history class, and two of them could be celebrity gossip, and he'd still probably be able to honestly say that "everything changes" then.

Re: Torchwood: MD 4x05 - The Categories Of Life (Grade/Discuss) SPOILE

Do centuries need diapers? And how do you change them and how does a century soil a diaper with what exactlyand how big do you have to be to nanny a hundred years?

(Doctor Who needs to meet Jenny Sparks some time eventually.)
