I thought I recognised Nick Briggs as the voice of the 456, but apparently it isn't...

Isn't Nick Briggs supposed to be in this one? Not just as a voice but as an actual person you can see?

The revelation that Jack was involved in the earlier events was telegraphed a bit too much to be truly surprising, though it still worked.

The scenes with the 456 barely glimpsed in the fog were hugely effective. I'll have to go find a hat so I can take it off to Peter Capaldi.

Was it supposed to be a surprise? The only reason for wanting him dead had to be because he was involved somehow the first time around.

Another 9/10 - real edge-of-the-seat stuff just from Peter Capaldi talking to some smoke in a fish tank!

Absolutely agreed. You could cut the tension with a sonic screwdriver. Marvellous acting and solid writing, I could scarcely ask for more.

On another note, the folks who keep saying that "nothing's happening"... which fucking show are you watching!? :wtf:

Fuck knows. Isn't this exactly the sort of show us sci-fi fans are always pleading for? Substance over style, strong character moments over action? As soon as we get it people bitch.

Must say I have been impressed with these episodes, the eps get more intense and better with each day and the pacing is working well.

(anyone else fancy Jack's daughter?)

Yes. I recognise her though can't remember where from. Don't care as long as I'm in Milf heaven.

Echo what the Skutterman says. A lot of substance in this, which is probably why I'm enjoying it more than earlier stuff (which I still mostly enjoyed despite Burn Gormans face).

Good stuff so far. I've also learned Ianto seems to prefer being called Gay Boy over Queer. Interesting...

I could not place her but i think i remember her from such shows as Einstein and Eddington.

That boffin in the mustard coloured lab coat really creeps me out and the 456 alien reminds me of the Tentacle creatures from the Half-Life franchise. This show has improved by leaps and bounds, the general tone set by the "Children of Earth" serial was what Torchwood should've been right from the start, and I hope they'll stick to this winning formula from now on. Keep it lean, mean, and coherent.

I like that Black-Ops woman (who was also in Resident Evil, Dead Set, and Fortress 2), I really dislike that elderly civil service woman, and Peter Capaldi is a revelation as the genuinely put upon, morally ambiguous chief civil servant. I wonder if the Black Ops woman and her team switch sides, then end up as members of a genuinely resurgent Torchwood Institute?

Very good episode, certainly better than the last. It ripped by so quickly that I didn't want it to be over!

Like I said in my post for the last episode, this feels a lot like The X-Files conspiracy all over again. And Jack was directly involved. I can't imagine what his motives were. Whatever they were, I'm certain The Doctor would not approve.

The conversation between Frobisher and the 456 was very well done dramatically. Major props to all involved.

Much to my surprise, I'm beginning to love Rhys. Two years ago I would have never thought I would say that. However, that being said I still can't stand Gwen. :p

And yes, Starkers, I fancy Jack's daughter (that sounds so wrong somehow).

I, too, thought the voice of the 456 was Nick Briggs so I was surprised to find out it wasn't him. But, yes, he is suppose to appear in the flesh.

Seriously. I knew nothing all that dramatic was likely to happen, but the scene was just executed so perfectly that it didn't matter.

Also agreed with those who're saying that Torchwood has finally found a tone and style that really works. I think the first two series were too much like "Doctor Who for adults," which in theory could work really well but in practice never gelled for this show. This style is just about perfect, and I hope that however the (highly probable if not yet certain) fourth series is formatted, it captures this same atmosphere.

So far these last three episodes have been exceptionally better than the first two series of Torchwood combined (IMO)! Brilliant! Everyone has been on their game in this...I was a little surprised to learn though that there are only five episodes! Forgive my slow brain, does anyone know what Torchwood's future is going to be after Children of Earth. Also don't forget that the soundtrack is being released in a couple of weeks!

At this point I think literally no one knows quite what the future holds. The ratings for episodes one and two have been very strong given the time of year and the time slot. If they stay strong for the rest of the week, and I don't see why they wouldn't, a further series of some sort will be a shoo-in. But Russell T Davies has said that he doesn't know what form it would take. If the BBC ask for another event miniseries, he'll make it; if they want something else, he'll make that.

Okay thanks for the update...I haven't read much about Torchwood lately other than this has started of course and the audio plays started recently.

It's not like it doesn't have style or action as well though, it's a complete package. Interesting to note there's been maybe one shit vote for all three episodes so far...that's telling!

Yeah, I didn't mean it didn't have those things, just that they weren't being used to cover lack of the other two.

*shock* you mean, someone who made up their mind it was shit without watching it is voting?

Maybe I'm just slow but I was surprised. I never would have guessed that Jack was THAT morally ambiguous to give the 456 the children. But I guess it makes sense, to save the planet or what not.

I assume Jack was with Torchwood in 1965?

I thought this episode was spot on; I found the 456 suitably tense and mysterious; I was surprised that Jack was in 1965 giving the children as a gift; I thought it might have turned out he found out about it afterwards and had a stern talking to with the home office.
