I know it's sacrilege, but I'm actually glad they're sticking to F-18Es. Hornets have always been my favorite jet fighter. The first model I built with my dad when I was fiveish, was an F-18C. They're like real-world X-Wings.
This trailer seems to emphasize the plane porn more so than the previous trailer's emphasis on Tom Cruise's midlife crisis. And for shots of planes flying and whatnot, it's a decent trailer.
Is that supposed to be the Aurora spy plane in the "post credit" scene at the end of the trailer? It kinda looks like it.

Oh, I didn't know his exact age. Just revisiting one of his earliest hits and doing a minimal acknowledgement of the passage of time just screams "midlife crisis" to me.
I can't remember how old Goose's son was in the original film. Does it work, timeline-wise, to have him be a pilot here?

It was all pretty vague and kept deliberately so. At least, that was my casual read on it.
Goose's son only looked like he was maybe four or five years old, which would have him pushing forty by the time of Maverick. Maybe Rooster (we see his callsign on his helmet in the new trailer) is actually a younger son whom Goose's wife had only recently become pregnant with by the time of Top Gun, which would put him in his early thirties in Maverick.
Even if he flies very very very very well ..?
