Top Five Favorite "Britcoms"

While I find Everybody Loves Raymond bearable, I agree thats theres hardly any mainstream US comedies that I find funny (save for Frasier and Fresh Prince Of Bel Air)

Anyway... Heres 5 of the best I can think of

1. Only Fools And Horses
2. Monty Python's Flying Circus
3. Chewin The Fat/Still Game (Scottish Sitcom)
4. The IT Crowd
5. The Royle Family

Pick any five from this list, because I love 'em all!

Monty Python's Flying Circus
'Allo 'Allo
Are You Being Served?
Coupling
The IT Crowd
Red Dwarf
Keeping Up Appearances
Fawlty Towers
Blackadder
Blackadder II
Blackadder the Third
Blackadder Goes Forth

There are probably more that I am not remembering right now!

Seriously, Waiting for God, nobody?

Really? Nobody? I love that show.

I don't think any of us are ready to admit that show skews to our age group just yet. ;) To that end, haven't seen Last of the Summer Wine, on a list, either. I have to say I never got much of the humor on that show, but the shots of the English countryside were gorgeous. It was worth watching it just for those landscapes.

I am surprised that no one has mentioned The Young Ones so far!....

For me:
1) Monty Python's Flying Circus
2) Red Dwarf
3) The Young Ones
4) As Time Goes By
5) Last of the Summer Wine

There is a bit of a range here, I think, in the type of humor (or target demographics), but as some have mentioned before, some of the choices are included for nostalgic reasons (from memories of viewing these programs on PBS Saturday nights as time passed approaching 11PM and Doctor Who!) rather than being the more outrageous humor that really makes me laugh. As Time Goes By and Last of the Summer Wine may be geared to an older audience than I was, but I enjoyed the humor, there, too.

Are You Being Served?, Chef and Waiting for God are also in there for sentimental reasons.

When I first saw Waiting for God (what an interesting concept-- but then again, we had Hogan's Heroes over on this side of the Big Ditch....), I thought -very briefly- that Stephanie Cole was John Cleese in drag (sorry, Stephanie...)!
