Has anyone ever watched any of Venom Geeks videos, such as Battle Space : Romulans, on You Tube? In his videos, VG uses flat, top down models of ships for his strategic videos.
Creating a game using those same top down models would be very fun and easy to make, not to mention, very fun to play.
Using the Unity Game Ebgine, the top down models could had have scripts added to them to allow for group placement of several ship types, pre-loaded attack patterns, as well as player made attack patterns.
The game would basically be a top down side scroller shooter game. The enviroment would be the entire Trek Galaxy plus Undine space.
You would start off with a mining ship that is mining dilithium that you can then use to purchase new ships and gear to fit your ships out with. You would have to build a station and hangars for your ships as well and at some point you would need to join an alliance to get access to more powerful ships and larger stations.
You could run missions against NPC's through encouters, similar to Star Trek Online. You could even engage hostile player ships that are a different race simply by selecting Attack Opponent.
Attacking an opponent of a different race automatically sends a signal to any ships within ten blocks that a fight between player 1 and player 2 is taking place. The players can then join in the fight or decline.
The winner or winners get a dilithium boost for three days as well as controlling the block by erecting a station, if the winning player has said resources. Resources that can only be obtained from player vs player combat and NPC encounters.
If the winners of the pvp fight are unable to build a starion, then the block remains free and open for someone else to build on without first having to engage in PvP.
The game would be a combination of Star Trek Online and the mobile game based off of Star Trek.
You would even be able to form alliances with other players, regardless of race along with commanding up to three groups of five ships each for strategic warfare against blocks that you want to capture.
