Top Anticipated Films of 2010

I'm sure the millions of tie-in toys they sell to go along with it are little. :p

Only a small portion. They are only meant for the true collector anyway, and certainly not for the millions of screaming adolescent fans which likely clamor for them.

Well, of course. Why else would these toys, er, collectibles be covered in so much clear plastic? Obviously it is to allow them to be enjoyed without disturbing the original packaging.

Looks like I won't be making many trips to the cinema this year. Iron Man 2 is the lot for me. Looking through other people's responses, I can't see anything else that can't wait for the DVD.

It's a dull list. Did we know about District 9 a year prior? I remember knowing about "Alive in Joburg", anyway, that was a cool short. Honestly when I think about it there isn't a single thing there that remotely grabs me except by connection. Inception is the new Christopher Nolan movie; Toy Story 3 is, well, the new sequel to one of the beloved films of my childhood. Shutter Island is the exception here - true, its' got name talent, but even take that away and I'd go see that movie. I like psychosis and instiutions and hidden truths and so on.

I still want to see this.

Uhm, you're neglecting to mention Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows - Part I (November 19th).

Oops. But, regardless of my error, it's not a movie intended for any serious Oscars. It's another franchise picture.

Are you kidding? How dare you call the Harry Potter films 'franchise' pictures! They have substance. They are delicate little films about growing up and youth. Little films that cost hundreds of millions of dollars and take up dozens of soundstages. Little, mind you.
To be fair, the October-December movie release slate is a bit blurry this far out. This time last year I'd be surprised how many people knew about films like An Education, Invictus, Precious, etc. I'm sure the info was out there, but it's generally bigger releases that have fanfare a full year prior to release.

I still want to see this.
I remember this time last year a poster on this very message board posted a "2009 Sci-Fi films" which listed District 9, that's the first I remember hearing of the film.

At this point most people seem a lot more interested in the blockbuster releases lined up for 2011 (if they stay on track without any delays or cancellations):

Battle: Los Angeles
Sucker Punch
Spider-Man 4
Thor
Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides
Star Trek XII
Green Lantern

Cars 2
Transformers 3
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2
The First Avenger: Captain America
Happy Feet 2
Real Steel
The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn
The Hobbit, Part 1

Hollywood will no doubt surprise us with some smaller studio fare that just doesn't get any hype or promotion almost until release. This time last year Moon, District 9, 500 Days of Summer and An Education weren't on my radar. Yet I really enjoyed all three more than hyped movies like Avatar or Transformers 2.

What I know I am anticipating(by release date) for 2010
1. The Wolfman-Feb
2. Clash of the Titans-March
3. Iron Man 2-May
4. Robin Hood-May
5. Jonah Hex-June
6. Toy Story 3-June
7. Salt-July
8. The Expendables-August
9. Narnia 3 Dawn Treader-December
10. Green Hornet-December

I'm curious to see
Daybreakers(Jan), The Losers(April), Nightmare on Elm Street(always leary of remakes and the first was 80s horror classic-April), Prince of Persia(May), A-Team(June), Last Airbender(July), Eclipse(July), Predators(again remake ahh-July), Tron:Legacy(Dec)

Have no intrest as of now to see(of the hyped movies)
Alice in Wonderland, Green Zone(just give me more Bourne, really), Shrek 4, Sex&City 2, Karate Kid, Inception, Fockers3, Saw 7 in 3-D, Latest Harry Potter,

I'll see all my 'anticipated' and likely more than half of my 'curious' movies. Then I'll find a few gems during the year like those I mentioned at the start. A Moon or An Education that surprises.

Initial reviews for Daybreakers seem positive; though I was underwhelmed by the trailer (did not care for the lighting, it was too much of a dank thing). The RT community sits it at 68%, though, so nobody get your hopes up unduly. Reviews seem fairly consistent in liking it but deeming it uneven, also.

Is that concept art for Duncan Jones' Mute? Looks fantastic.
Yup, and it does. One can really see the implied Blade Runner to Moon's Silent Running/2001, as it were.

I'm looking forward to Daybreakers. I plan on seeing it this Friday. I'm kind of disappointed Jones went and decided to make Source Code now before Mute. I certainly hope he returns to Mute right afterward.

I have free ROE(Run On Engagement) passes for Daybreakers. The pass can only be used M-Th after its opening weekend and not on weekends so I'll have to go after work one day.
I hope its good, it looks interesting enough and vampires are in.

A bunch of other movies I've looked up and am really looking forward to, some I can't believe I forgot;

Your Highness
Hot Tub Time Machine
I Love You, Phillip Morris
Due Date (Robert Downey Jr. comedy!)
The Sorcerer's Apprentice
Jonah Hex
44 Inch Chest
Edge of Darkness
Red Dawn
The Book of Eli
The A-Team
The Beaver
Paul
Dinner for Schmucks
The Other Guys (Will Ferrell directed by Adam McKay!)

and of course, can't believe I forgot...

MACHETE

Two more for me that I didn't think of earlier:

The Rum Diary, an adaptation of the Hunter S. Thompson novel, starring Johnny Depp and Amber Heard.

Les Aventures Extraodinaires d'Adéle Blanc-Sec, first in a planned trilogy adapting the Adele Blanc-Sec comic books, directed by Luc Besson.

Which was the point I made up above. :p

That's because those are Oscar-bait movies. Word about them won't be widespread until mid-summer at the earliest, at least in these circles. This is why JacksonArcher doesn't have a single release set for September-December, except for The Social Network in October.

I'm not a fan of DiCaprio, but Shutter Island sounds like my kind of film. I'm looking forward to The Losers coming out. Hopefully it won't get pushed back again.
