TOP 5 TV theme songs...

Ulysses 31
Thundercats
Mysterious Cities of Gold
Dogtanian and the Three Muskethounds
The Bots Master

(to name but 5 more)

My top five:

1. Twin Peaks - the greatest theme comes from the greatest soundtrack TV has ever had. Series isn't bad either.

2. The Twilight Zone. Iconic. Inimitable. Influential

3. Thunderbirds - Thunderbirds are Go! Barry Gray was a genius, and this was his finest hour.

4. The Simpsons - Danny Elfman captures the exuberance, anarchism and sheer energy of the Greatest Cartoon Series Ever.

5. The X-Files - The finest modern theme, instantly recognisable, creepy, and a perfect set-up for the show.

There are so many others, 5 is far too few to pick, but those are my picks. :techman:

Spectacular Spiderman
Wonderfalls
Futurama
Mystery Science Theater 3000
Doctor Who
Firefly

Couldn't choose just 5.

I couldn't leave it at just those five, so here are five others of my favorite TV themes.

-Hercules The Legendary Journeys
-The Flash
-Hardcastle and McCormick
-Cleopatra 2525
-seaQuest DSV

1. Star Trek TOS

2. Kojak (the original; the darker, cooler version, if you can call it that)

Shame on you all. How could you forget this, the coolest theme song of all time? It played on the radio constantly when I was in high school, which really dates me.

Believe it or not

Never before or since has a song spoken to us syfy nerds so endearingly. :)

That was actually a video made by a fan with clips from the GAH show, but it was the actual theme song used.

One Day at a Time was great, too. I agree with that one.

My favorite right now is Ashes to Ashes. I LOVE the guitar!

This is actually a pretty good selection! I've been thinking about all of these as good themes/credit sequences. I think my top five, at the moment, would be:

Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Dexter
ER
Six Feet Under
Star Trek: Voyager

Followed closely by the runners up:

Alias
Gilmore Girls
Stargate SG-1
True Blood
The X-Files

I'll take a stab at this - five, in no particular order

The Wild Wild West - Richard Markowitz
Mission: Impossible - Lalo Schifrin
Barney Miller - Jack Elliott/Allyn Ferguson(?)
Northern Exposure - David Schwartz(?)
One Day at a Time - Jeff Barry

(Same list could be very different tomorrow.)

Ren & Stimpy - God only knows. A Bunch of nuts at the Spümcø production company, going under the name "Die Screamin' Lederhosen"
Possibly Chris Reccardi (who was one of the Screamin' Lederhosen and who also wrote the music for the "Happy Happy Joy Joy" song) though according to the following, the opening and closing themes were both born out a band jam session.
