For the sake of this thread I want you to judge shows mostly just on those two options. I'm not saying you completely ignore character, humor or typical drama because those things can enhance a action scene, only you put them in perspective. for example I love Trek but action has never been the shows strong suit so it won't be listed for me. Here is my top 5.

1 Stargate shows. I love how it's contempory humans, mostly using contempory weapons.I also like how when more sci-fi stuff is used in scene it is still being used through the view of modern humans. Also Ronan and Teyla actually brought in a new angle with intresting hand to hand style combat.

2 Battlestar Galatica. I liked how the spaceships felt real and gritty and the battles were very stylized. Also soldier combat was done pretty well and they actually made it feel pretty violent.
3 The CW Arrowverse shows. I think the Netflix Marvel shows are proably better shows overall but I do like the comic book fun style you see on the CW shows. I just like seeing comic book characters using their powers.
4 Doctor Who. I like seeing a show were a character gets out of jams bt being clever and usually not very violent. It's not your typical type of action which is one the reasons it works so well.
5 Ash vs the Evil Dead. This is the complete oposite of Doctor Who. It's very gory and ovr the top violent but also funny. It's a true "Evil Dead" show and I love it for that.

1) Xena: Warrior Princess had plenty of action and adventure, and some amazing fight choreography at times. Remember the ladder fight with Callisto in Season One?

2) Star Trek: the original series, of course. Remember Kirk against Gorn, or against Spock during the Vulcan trial by combat. Heck, the "Amok Time" fight music alone puts it in the top five. And let's not forget the Doomsday Machine, or the cloaked Romulan warship in "Balance of Terror."

I'll have to think about the next three, although The Avengers is a contender. (Steed and Emma, I mean, not the Marvel heroes.)
