The unfortunate thing is that Sisko's dedication and preference to Bajor and the Prophets as a religious figure will always make Picard and Kirk "better Captains" on loyalty to Starfleet alone.

I'm not one to use the term "badass". Partly because it'd sound like "badarse" if I said it, and partly because I can't bring myself to see "bad" and "arse" as good things.

Even so, I wouldn't rate Robau or Sisko at the top. Kirk and Janeway for me. Jellico and Hunter-Pike just behind. I think Archer's gazelle speech manages to go all the way around awful to being really cool in an ironic sort of way.

Well, Robau wasn't on the screen long enough to really show his badassness one way or the other. I mean it takes longer to read his thread in Trek XI than it does to watch his entire role in the actual film.
For my money, Sisko is the most badass of all the Trek Captains.
Kirk would be second.
Janeway third, just because for a women, she really IS pretty badass.
The idea that Picard or Archer are 'badass' is laughable.

In terms of doing crazy stuff no one could get away with in real life (which seems to be what badassness means), there's a good case to be made that Janeway was actually more badass than Sisko. Unfortunately she did those things on a less cool show.

Lol, Jellico was a grumpy sod! He was definitely badass with the Cardassians.
I still have a tough time taking Gary Cole as a bad ass seriously.
