Top 10 personal greatest Trek moments

What are the moments that mean something special top you as a fan? Can be from a popular or unpopular episode or movie. Can be from an episode or movies that you think is crap but has a great scene. Not need to rank in order. With that in mind, my top 10:-

1. "Your broke your little ships". I always thought this scene was very powerful. Not just the Ahab analogy, but I always viewed the breaking of the model ships as an assault on the legacy of the Enterprise dating back to Kirk and before. That Picard, in that moment, realises he is failing to love up to that legacy.

2. "Oh My". Controversial, but Kirk's death scene has always been a winner with me (as opposed to what came before and after it). Shatner said that the "Oh My" line was meant to refer to Kirk seeing his adventures and friends flashing before his eyes, so whenever I watch the scene that's what I think of.

3. "I am now Jake, I am now". Who can fail to be moved by The Visitor? Probably DS9's finest hour for me.

4. Spock's death. Nuff said.

5. "Data, you are the bird". While the Birthright two parter has always been of mixed quality for me, I always loved this scene, culminating in Data flying out of the ship and into space in his dream.

6. "Here's to ya lads". Who can fail to be choked up by Jimmy Doohan back on the TOS bridge?

7. Kirk tours the Enterprise - TMP

8. "He knows Doctor, he knows". Probably the single most powerful scene in all of TOS.

9. "I created it, and it's real!" Benny Russell's breakdown.

10. "I need my pain" . I love this scene. I think Shatner, Nimoy and Kelley are all wonderful in it from beginning to end.


Caveat....I may add a few more later!

In no particular order...

1. Picard meeting Kirk in the Nexus in Star Trek Generations

2. Scotty reminiscing on board the Enterprise ("no bloody A, no bloody B....") in 'Relics'

3. "So I will learn to live with it...Because I can live with it...I can live with it. Computer – erase that entire personal log." - Sisko, 'In The Pale Moonlight'

4. Tribbles burying Kirk in 'The Trouble With Tribbles' (and also seeing Dax and Sisko pelting him with Tribbles in 'Trials and Tribble-ations')

5. "You hit me! Picard would never hit me!" Q getting bopped in the face by Sisko - 'Q-Less'.

6. Spock Prime's death and new Spock looking at his possessions - Star Trek Beyond.

7. Deep Space Nine showing off its new weaponry in 'Way of the Warrior'

8. "I am Locutus of Borg." / "Mr Worf. Fire" - 'Best of Both Worlds'.

9. The two EMHs fight off the Romulans - 'Message in a Bottle'

10. The Xindi weapon taking out Florida, Cuba and Venezuela - 'The Expanse'

There are a quite a few favorites for me but here's a few off the top of my head in no particular order.

1) "The beast at Tanagra. Uzani, his army. Shaka, when the walls fell." - The episode Darmok in TNG where Picard (and the audience) figure out the Tamarian language to save the day.

2) "The cha'dich will be silent" - Worf walking out the Klingon hall disgraced to protect his people.

3) "The needs of the many..." - Spock sacrificing himself for the Enterprise.

4) "Time's up" - Janeway sacrificing herself to stop/reset the Krenim time ship.

5) "Wife took the whole damn planet in the divorce" - Kirk and Bones meet for the first time in Star Trek (2009).

6) "Fortune favors the bold. Well, I guess we're about to find out." - Sisko and Starfleet heading to war outnumbered in Sacrifice of Angels.

7) "Oh shit." - Data expressing his newfound emotions as the Enterprise saucer falls into orbit in Generations.

8) "We're right here" - Geordi and Ro, phased, attempt to save the ship during their funerals in The Next Phase.

9) "My father and I never chose to meld" - Spock mind melding with Picard to glimpse at the Sarek he never knew.

10) "The line must be drawn here, this far no further, and I will make them pay..." - Picard coming to realize his blind hated for the Borg.

I don't know if I can narrow it down to 10. There are so many. But I'll post them as I think of them. A few at a time.

At the end of The City on the Edge of Forever, when Kirk says "Let's get the hell out of here". You can see how badly it's affected him.

In Voyager's Blink of an Eye. When the 2 alien astronauts come aboard the ship and see (from their perspective), the crew frozen in time.

In Star Trek 5. At the end, Spock talks about losing his brother. Kirk says (referring to Spock), "I lost a brother once, I was lucky to get him back".

Well, off the top of my head, since I've never thought of this before and don't have a working list to work from...


Say what you will about "Star Trek V: The Final Frontier", but it makes the first two entries:

1. McCoy's pain scene. It's brought no depths to his character and is probably one of his best scenes.

2. The campfire scene. It showed a more human side than really previously scene and the character coming together in their own imperfect ways.

3. O'Brien's scene with the Cardassian in 10-Forward ("The Pegasus", I think), where his character is not only given no depth, but touches upon a few human aspects, not the least of which is having to learn to let go of anger at somebody or some group when it's either no longer relevent or not particular to the person you are speaking with. Some nice touches of comflict added to what had previously been a minor secondary character.

4. This is a combo: Riker giving Picard the sex statue, and Riker holding the Picard doll. It showed a lighter side to Riker that was enjoyable.

5. Picard's ending dialogue on life and death from Generations. Just great stuff.

6. I'll break from the character moments to just a personal one: seeing the blown up Enterprise A enter the atmosphere and then seeing it trail across the sky in smoky wreck in TSfS.

7. For however terrible Voyager was -- and it was utterly terrible -- it had a handful of breif shining moments and one of those is the -- to me -- the TOS-like ending of of "The Thaw" as everything fades away slowly and the clown asks what will become of him. Great stuff.

8. WHAM-O! Seeing that fleet of Federation ships as had never really been seen before (along with Jay Chattaway's kick-ass music) was just the equivilant of a "Fuck yah!" moment.

9. That scene of the Enterprise A backing out of space dock as James Horner's score reaches triumph grand statements of his main theme for his Trek film scores, followed by the orchestral build up and release as the Enterprise A pulls off then warps away, is just utterly fantastic. It's also an overall good moment for the characters: loyal to their dead friend and trying to do the right thing even if it costs them their jobs and even freedom.

10. And finally, Picard's breif comment in "The Best of Both Worlds: Part I" about perhaps the events were just another page in history, turn the page, that maybe this was it for them. It's an interesting thing to think about, how often has it actually happened in history a great man or great empire was crumbling and there was a moment when he or they knew: it's about to be over -- this is it. Or you could humorously dumb it down to that Far Side comic where Marie Antoinette gives her last-dtich effort to save her head: "And ice creame! I said, 'Let them eat ice cream!' "


Some many good moments I couldn't reference because of a limit of ten.



Though not on my list, I'd second another member's entry of Kirk needing his pain.

The Enterprise A was the ship that Kirk was given command of at the end of the 4th movie to replace the original Enterprise. The one that escaped Spacedock and then later blew up over Genesis was the original Enterprise which had no suffix in it's name.

No, they were both the same ship -- the refit Constitution class. The only difference is one was rebuilt from scratch. It's still the A even if it doesn't have the letter. This would be like saying each Enterprise A was a different ship just because changes were made to parts of it like the Bridge, in the various TOS films.

They were two different ships, just the same class. The Enterprise in the original series and the first three movies were the Constitution class, and the Enterprise A was the Constitution class refit. What you're saying is like calling a rotary phone and a smart phone the same thing.

This was HARD. But, it was a fun exercise. My exclusion of moments from ENT and VOY aren't really snubs. I just can't think of any moments in those shows that are up with these. I actually really like ENT, and VOY had it's moments but was not really my favorite.

When Kirk and Sulu get McCoy out of the mental ward in TSFS. Sulu is trying to make small talk with the guard. The big gorilla stands up and says, "Don't mess with me, Tiny". When they escape, Sulu wipes the floor with him and says, "Don't call me Tiny".

Then right after you have Uhura and Mr. Adventure, .

Spock refuses Sybok on the observation deck.

The Picard brothers have their post-fight heart to heart.

Mark Twain leaves the mine with Data's head behind him.

Picard "Old Kamin" realises his life wasn't as it seemed afterall and greets some old friends.

Marritza rants and then breaks down sobbing.

Sisko and Old Jake have their heart to heart.

The Doctor's holodaughter dies.

Annorax goes to have a stroll with his wife.

These are the first 10 that come to mind.
1. Picard putting his own life on the line for the Prime Directive in "Who Watches The Watchers".

"If you believe that I am a supreme being, then you cannot hurt me. If, however, I am telling the truth, that I am mortal, you will kill me. If, however, my death is the only evidence you will believe, then shoot!"

2. Kirk threatening Anan 7 In "A Taste of Armageddon."

KIRK: You take a lot of chances, Councilman.
ANAN: You're worried about your ship, Captain. I'm trying to save a world.
KIRK: If I were you, I'd think about saving my life.

3. Data's Eulogy for Ira Graves in "The Schizoid Man".

"I can safely say, that to know him, was to love him. And to love him, was to know him...
Those who knew him, loved him, while those who did not know him, loved him from afar."

4. Spock's plea to Kirk to help Captain Pike in "The Menagerie".

"Don't stop me. Don't let him stop me. It's your career and Captain Pike's life. You must see the rest of the transmission."

6. The final shot of Picard manning the Enterprise all alone in "Yesterdays's Enterprise", there's phaser fire, the music builds, and the Enterprise C returns into the rift to restore the right timeline..

7. Admiral Jameson's remarkable recovery where he stuns the bridge crew by walking to the conn station in "Too Short A Season". Why you ask? There's something poignant about seeing a cripple regain his ability to walk, and I like the music.

8. The early scenes in "Datalore" on Omicron where the away team discovers the lab where Data was built.

9. The Enterprise leaving dry dock in Star Trek: The Motion Picture.

10. The climax of "Conspiracy".

"We seek peaceful coexistence!"
