It was "Armor Wars". Armour Wars was when Stark Industries' processed meat division was threatened by a rival sausage maker and Tony, as Iron Man, had to destroy his competition because it was reavealed that Justin Hammer was tainting the meat.

I just read that and it doesn't even make sense to me. But I'll let it stand.

I loved "Stark Wars" when I was little, but i think it was all handled much better in "The Iron Secretary" when Stark realized that the had to return to the weapons business because everyone had caught up to him and they were making the same stuff he was 10 years earlier but just not as well or safely, because of all the explosions.

The original Jackpot was a woman named Sarah Ehret. This woman has superpowers of an unknown nature and registered under the Superhuman Registration Act and was allowed to act as a licenced superhero. She regretted this and quietly retired. Another, physically similar woman named Alana Jobson approached her and convinced her to hand over her registration card. Jobson had no superpowers and began purchasing Mutant Growth Hormone from various suppliers which gave her unpredictable superpowers. This is the woman Spider-Man worked with.

They fought a minor villain named Blindside together. His power was the ability to render his opponent temporarily blind using a chemical compound. Unfortunately for him, Spider-Man developed an antidote which he used on himself and Jackpot. Blindside used his ability on them again, and while it did not work, the combination of the compound, the antidote and the MGH she had been taking caused a chemical reaction which resulted in her death.

Ehret based the oriignal Jackpot persona on MJ. MJ is a famous soap actress and used the "Face it Tiger, you just hit the Jackpot" on television. Ehret has been seen with MJ, declaring that she is a "huge fan".

Oh... And here I thought the only interesting bit in Brand New Day was that Mary Jane had told Mephisto that she wanted to be a superheroine to keep an eye on Peter or something like that. Oh, well, guess I was missing even less then I thought.

It makes sense to me. Stark and Reed justified their spearheading the SHRA few times by saying that it was going to happen anyway, and if something like that had to happen then Stark didn't trust anybody but himself (control freak that he is) to control that kind of power. Having lost the reins of the beast he helped create, Stark turns around and sabotages it, much like the way he decided to track down every piece of Stark tech being used by the government and others because he didn't want it used outside of his control (the 'Armour Wars' it was called, right?).

I was a supporter of the SHRA and Stark, but I am seeing this sitch with Norman and Tony trying to erase his brain as totally FUBAR. I am ready to slap Matt Fraction and raise $$ to bribe Warren Ellis into writing some good Iron Man again.

I loved his Thor and his Excalibur was outstanding and frack me but who cares what else in the world he's written if there's books like Next Wave in his list of accomplishments...

Extremis was utterly the beginning of his Deush era.

i was reading new Warriors the other day and they traveled into the future... And Stark lost control of the SRA and his company and there's a big brother overlord in charge using the sra and stark tech to be the king of all...

This just goes to show that all the people, like myself, who decried the actions of Tony Stark and Reed Richards during Civil War and later has all been drastically out of character. If it was just Stark and Richards in possession of the SHRA registration records, that would all be fine and good. But every reader could see the flaw in that, what happens when they get replaced and those records wind up in the hands of a politician? Yeah, Stark is a "futurist" that cannot even see past a couple years and a new political administration coming into power. And Richards was a protester of Mutant Registration, yet turns right around and not only sells out those same mutants (including his son and daughter) but every other hero he has ever known. Riiiiiiight.

Now Osborn may not actually be a full blown politician, he is more slimy. But EVERYone knows you can't trust the Marvel U's US government. How long had they had to deal with Henry Gyrich's meddling into Avengers' affairs after all?

The entire 616 has been fracked since Disassembled, when Quesada gave over the reigns of the whole world to Bendis and Millar who proceeded to just insert random heroes into their preconceived plot points. These guys are LOUSY writers. They may have a cool idea here and there, but when it comes time for them to execute the story and lay it all out there, they fall way short. Those two guys would have been better served if they had an editor like Jim Shooter who actually knows how to edit a book and is much more than just a traffic cop intermediary between the writer and artists.

I liked the "end" of the story where Tony is saying "What the Hell happened to Reed? My god he doesn't care!" As if after instituting the SRA, it's actual implementation was completely unimportant to his psychohistorical forecast. Considering how the Mad Thinker was creaming himself over Reeds math, Norman, or someone like Norman being in charge would have been fortold and all the complications therafter would be despite "anything"still inevitably be leading bumpily to perhaps a pleasant conclusion.

So much is explained in Uncanny X-Men Annual 2 (They rebooted the numbering, don't be an idiot.) about how this all started! Apparantly Tony Stark spilt a drink on Norman at the Hellfire club sometime in the 80s. THATS IT!!!!!! It's a good read all about the secret sexy affair namor and Emma had in the "80s", but I'm more so inclined to wonder how off the deep end crazy te Murants have become that on the precipice like they now that they have finally6 given up the dream of living under single rule as humans that they now have their own secret priisons where they keep their enemies since humans and especially osborn can't be trusted not to swell the ranks of the Thunderbolts with all the bad guys they reign in.

Iron Man has fought both Quicksilver and Whirlwind. He fires on targets from 12 thousand feet up traveling at mach 10 with uncanny accuracy... But he's suddenly stymied by some bugger right up in his grill with probably reflexes maybe 2 or three times faster than an Olympic athlete who has quite bad breath?

It was okay, and the art was fabulous, but the year between the last few issues ruined the flow of the storytelling, y'know.

I'm still waiting for the last issue of Planetary.

Just an aside: I was watching the history of Iron Man extras on my Iron Man DVD and was bemused how they skipped the beloved Armor Wars saga. It practically went from Demon in a Bottle to Extremis. Then they spent like a third of the doc talking about Extremis and Ultimate Iron Man. I was like...wtf?

I thought Armor Wars at least gave him a good reason for being a renegade. Despite the fact he's breaking all the rules, you genuinely get the sense he's doing it for the greater good. But it's also a natural character progression; you don't get the sense that he's suddenly been taken over by Kang or Mark Millar.

That's pretty ballsy of Joey to admit that he's killing cats to wring their blood into his hair while he's chanting and dancing naked int he moonlight.
