Tonight (2/20): The last new Late Night with Conan O'Brien

I like Leno as a comedian, and as a car buff, but I never connected to him on the Tonight Show. I never liked Conan, period, so this will just make me that much less likely to refrain from changing the channel.

Too bad the idiots at NBC didn't do the smart thing and make Leno the host of the American Top Gear - then maybe they wouldn't have felt the need to cancel it before it even aired (Adam Carolla? Saw that cancellation as soon as he was announced!)

While I get your point I wonder if the meltdown in the auto industry and economy wasn't to blame as well. "Watch us tool around in a $90000 car while GM goes bankrupt and you've lost your high-paying job."

Yep, watching Leno's late night act is quite difficult. I usually just skip the first 30 mins and wait until the guests arrive.

Fallon will do a good job taking over for Conan.

I'm really excited to see Conan earlier. I can never stay up late enough for his show which is unfortunate because he's my favorite late night guy. Sadly I usually can't stay up for Letterman or Leno either, but at least now I have a better chance of seeing Conan.

I'm sad to see Conan's 12:30 run end. I watched him pretty consistently for almost a decade, right up until I finished school and had to start getting up before 10:30am .

I hope that we haven't seen the last of Pimpbot5000 and the Masturbating Bear.

I saw this Friday night and it was awesome. Late Night with Conan will be missed!

On the other hand, he's going to be on an hour earlier and Leno won't be on TV for a few months! Everyone wins!

Just saw that Andy Richter will be Conan's announcer, and will be a part of some skits. I give this a big thumbs up!

The poor guy tried 3 or 4 times with sitcoms and just didn't sail. I personally don't think there is any shame to getting back in on Conan's success train.

I also don't blame him for trying...he's a talented guy, he just wasn't able to establish a successful vehicle.

Andy's the least likely "star" I can imagine, the fact that he's had any career at all is quite a testament to his success.

I know this is a dumb question, but why not just move his show up by an hour? I mean, is his new show going to be a total reboot or something?

As for Fallon, I saw him on Diggnation and... well, at least he's young and somewhat of a geek.

Not a dumb question. My understanding is that it is the history and prestige of the show more than anything else. The Tonight Show, on season number 54, is one of the longest running shows on TV.

On The Tonight Show... O'Brien will follow Leno, who followed Carson, who followed Jack Parr, who followed Steve Allen.

On Late Nite... Fallon will follow O'Brien, who followed Letterman.

Craig Ferguson is my current favorite talk show host. I used to be a big Leno fan but I think it's about time for him to step down. I appreciate Conan O'Brien for what he is but I don't think he really deserves the prestige of the Tonight Show. I don't really think any current comedian does, really. But I guess you have to put someone there and Conan is a pretty funny guy.

Does that mean Conan is basically stuck with the format that Leno uses?
Or couldn't he just bring all his bits from Late Nite over?

Given that Leno is getting his own show, it just seems like a complete waste of money... just move all the shows up by an hour and then give Fallon a Late Late Nite show. :p

Nah, he's pretty much going to do his own thing, much like he's been doing. Although apparently he's checked with Standards and Practices and the Masturbating Bear isn't going to fly at 11:30.

That makes me pretty sad :(

Since it's a measly hour earlier? Wow, that's pretty fucking sad

Wow, it's been a while since I've even thought about the masturbating bear.

I think he needs to bust out the masturbating bear in the first episode and then have him remove the costumes head and we see it's Andy Richter and Conan go "THAT'S WHERE YOU'VE BEEN HIDING?"
:techman:

I think historically the 11:30PM slot was considered to be watched by more casual, older audiences who might be turned off by the stronger antics of the 12:30AM shows designed to appeal to younger, college types etc. who are up at that hour. Whether that's still true or not I'm not sure but I think it was a factor in the Carson/Letterman turnover.

I'm glad that Conan is getting Leno's slot so I don't have to pick between him and Craig Ferguson anymore. :p

Obviously, I don't watch Letterman much. Fallon is doomed to a fast death, methinks.
