Hi,

dont you think its stupid. that the Tokra pause and close their eyes for a second to speak in a different voice.. is stupid..

come on.. i know its not like Joined Trills where its a joined mind.. but they SHARE a body.. one of them can speak for the other one.. there is no need that ANY of the Tokra cant change their voices without closeing their wyes


for that matter why would a symbiote even make the person speak like that?

Its just for us, the audience, to understand they are switching. Goa'uld don't have to speak in that deep voice, they can choose to speak in the hosts normal voice, makes it hard though to know who is talking.

remember when Klorel was wearing that Tolan goauld/host switcher device, it changed between host and the Goa'uld, and even he did the pausing thing when it made them switch

maybe it really is necessary when changing between the two different minds

I always interpreted it as a cultural thing. The Tok'ra differentiate themselves from the Goa'uld by their respect for the host.* Making a big show of switching affirms the individuality of the host and probably reassures the Tau'ri who are observing this process.

*Of course, we've only ever had their word for it... The theatrics might just be part of their scam. They're no different from the Goa'uld, just a lot smarter about it. Stupid, gullible Tau'ri.

They're crammed into the back of the neck or in the Tok'ra, somewhere down the throat. Either way, that's the general location of the vocal chords, so it makes sense they'd affect them.

There are a hundred bigger problems with the SG franchise.

i dunno. its not a problem.. i just think it the only reason it was done was to show the audience the difference.. and it happening all the time.. is annoying.. destorys the flow of some scenes for me..

i wouldnt mind if it was cultural thing within Tok'ra society to let one person speak with the deep voice and the other not to.. so that other Tok'ra as well as thier allies and enemies can know who is voicing the opinion or whatever.. but the pause thing.. meh..

Something else to consider: they share the body but when they switch who's talking, more is happening than just their voice. They are literally taking control of the body entirely. The pause in between could be for the transition to go smoothly and to prevent damage, mental or otherwise.

And as it's already been stated, it's a simple mechanism to show us, the audience, that they've changed.
