To those who own the HD-DVD sets...

Have you been able to capture anything remastered that may have been lost as a result of syndication cuts?

I was just wondering because some of the edits are really jarring and it has been so long since I have seen non-cut eps, if you had seen something in your HD sets that those who watch on broadcast TV would not have seen?

Oh DAMN...they rotoscoped in Chewie into the tribbles ep. That's kewl...maybe they'll put the Millenium Falcon in orbit around K-7.

You guys are such kidders

You know, I am starting to think that you guys are pulling my leg...

I'd go with that hunch. :D

I've been wondering about whether or not to pick up the remastered dvds but after spending about $150 (with tax) per season for the originals, I'm not liking the current price tag. TOS is down to about $60 per season now so I think I'll be waiting a while for a price drop. While the CGI is cool... it's not worth about $200 to me.

Question: Do the remastered CGI versions give the option to watch the original version as well or is it just CGI?

I noticed that in the remastered "Trouble With Tribbles" canteen scene, that now the Klingon hit first.

I was reading elsewhere that Toshiba is about a month away from making an announcement that they are going to discontinue HD-DVD. Now I know in this whole format battles there have been pronouncements both ways, but apparently now ahead of the announcement I have noticed HD-DVDs on sale, perhaps to reduce inventory before the death knell? For example, Amazon now has new TOS season 1 in HD for $97...now that is a deal. Also, Toshiba HD players are 25% off. From another source that I spoke with, apparently Microsoft and Sony (or whoever owns the Blu-Ray technology rights) have reached an agreement and in 2009 a Blu-ray X-Box 360 will be released.

Now I don;t have a horse in this show...I don't own anything but an HD TV and I have been waiting for this to resolve itself. It looks like that might soon be happening if all the info above is true. IT has been a hard fought battle with passionate people on both sides of the technology.

They also added a wacky petting scene where Chekov mistakes Uhura's unkempt bush for a Tribble.

JOe, one-tracked

ok ...so the big question is ....what of season 2....im assuming they've already been manufactured...so then the question becomes how long until an announcement of TOS on Blue Ray?

Season 2 has already been delayed until summer (don't know why, but I don't think it had anything to do with the format war).

Paramount will probably still release it on HD-DVD, assuming most of the work involved in creating it has already been done, but it will surely be available in Blu-Ray as well.

Season 3 will probably be Blu-Ray only.

I don't own the set, but I've rented a couple of discs from Netflix. The new cut is the only cut. Maybe on the Blu-ray release since there's more space on Blu-ray. Also, it'd be a way for them to entice those that shelled out for HD DVD to re-purchase.

They have already done it. Toshiba IS OUT OF THE HD-DVD BUSINESS.

WOW, that is interesting news. So now do prices start to drop due to the decision to go to one format. My Blockbuster guy told me over the weekend that they are going to slowly convert all their retail stores to Blu-Ray over the next year or two. Much like they did when they went to DVD from VHS.

Wait... let me get this straight. Some poor slob buys Season 1 of TOS Remastered, which is only available in HD-TV, and now he's told everything will be Blue-Ray in the future?

Just wanna be clear here.

And, of course, throughout the entirety of the remastered episodes, all phasers have been replaced with communicators.

Unfortunately they used the "Cage" version of the communicator (the big-ass clunky one) and across the world scores of Trekkies have been hospitalized for continuity anxiety and canon-itis.

That seems to be the case. Really though, they arent poor slobs. Everyone knew it was a crapshoot from the beginning to side with one format. So no one should really be angry or bitter.
