To seek out new life...

Haha, maybe we will see who is pitching the day he/she is born and see what we come up with. ;)

We actually just realized that our baby will be the first person of mixed ethnicity in either of our families going many, many generations back. My family is just nothing but Caucasian and she, being Vietnamese and Laotian has an equally all-Asian family. There are some Cambodians and Filipinos as well, but none of us white folk until I came around. Maybe it's just us, but it is pretty exciting to know that our child will be the first Caucasian-Asian to bear my last name, at least in our family tree. :)

Thanks!

Here is the image we'll be posting to Facebook tomorrow to announce it to the masses.

Over this past weekend my wife started feeling worse and worse, with the key symptoms being nausea, fatigue and now cold/hot flashes. I checked her temperature and she hasn't been feverish, but when she called her doctor for advice, she said that having those symptoms at 13 weeks isn't exactly normal, and so she recommended a trip to urgent care since it is now after office hours and our appointment with our normal doc isn't until Monday. I am stuck at work right now but am about 10 minutes from getting out and will be joining her at the urgent care if she is still there. It seems odd to me that those symptoms seem strange, when everything I have read online on blogs and whatnot seem to indicate that a lot of women in a lot of different stages feel those symptoms, and as long as she isn't feverish then it's sort of part of the process. But I'm not a doctor and I would obviously take her word over people on the Internet, but I guess I'm just trying to be optimistic and hope that there's nothing out of the ordinary.

Anyway, will keep this thread updated. Basically just needed to vent and maybe get some perspective on this sort of thing.

I hope it's nothing serious and that she starts feeling better soon. Thinking good thoughts for all three of you!

Thanks guys. After her appointment at urgent care, it turns out they think she has a bladder infection, which would account for the hot flashes/chills and the nausea. They say pregnant women are pretty susceptible to getting them and it's pretty common. She's still feeling terrible right now but at least has medication to fight the infection, and we did verify that it's all safe for the baby.

New update: her lab results came back the other day and all of the cultures were normal so...no infection. This is good but it's a bit upsetting that she was put on antibiotics for no reason. Either way though it is good to know she wasn't sick and she's basically just having some of the more uncommon pregnancy symptoms. We saw the doctor again this past Monday and she wasn't concerned and simply prescribed her a different anti-nausea medicine which seems to be helping.

The coolest part of the appointment was that we got to hear the baby's heartbeat! It definitely added to the "realism" of the fact that there's a little person growing in there and we're really excited for the next time we see an image of him/her because that will be when we find out whether we're having a him or a her! :)

With a lil luck, Lil Shrimp will be born while the Giants are World Series champs! Hope everything is still going well for you and Mrs. Flux.
