To New Frontier or not?

Is the HC of Stone and Anvil still available? Back when it first was released it came with a DVD that contained all the prior novels as e-books...

Only the first edition contains the disk, and many people found they had to re-download a previous version of Adobe Acrobat just to read the files. Adobe forgot to tell Pocket they were about to upgrade.

I wouldn't call it a stinker, but to this day Horn and Ivory remains the one KRAD story I didn't like. Felt lost and wondering why I should care during most of it.

Fictitiously yours, Trent Roman

^ Well that's cool. It just felt like it came out of nowhere to me and I didn't really care for the premise. I'm probably harder on it than I should be because I enjoyed the rest of the collection so much.

edit: Wow, I had completely forgotten that KRAD wrote this one.. Yeah, this is probably the only KRAD story I haven't enjoyed. Still, not liking one out of ALL of the others, he's still got an amazing record of great work.

^ Yup, that was me. And don't sweat not liking it. Life would be boring if I pleased everybody. :)

Thanks for the info! I'm in the UK, unfortunately, so I can't order from Amazon.com.

Like Ian said, since when? I'm in Canada, and I've ordered a lot of stuff from Amazon.ca, Amazon.com, and Amazon.co.uk. I've come close to ordering from Amazon.de, too, and the only concern I'd have about that is the cost of shipping.

I just went through the order process at Amazon.de for a book (cancelled the order before placing it) and the standard shipping cost was €14 ($22.42 Canadian). I did the same thing at Amazon.co.uk and the standard shipping cost was £6.98 (C$11.89). That's more of a difference than I'd expected, though to a considerable extent that's because the C$ has been doing pretty well against the pound and not so well against the Euro. A couple of years ago, £7 and €14 would probably both have been around C$15 to C$18.

Ah, I only thought about the distance and forgot to take the exchange rates into account. Thanks, Steve.

Yep. long gone are the days of a strong pound where as the Euro just seems to keep on getting stronger!

Didn't Lwaxana call him "Woof" repeatedly?
Well, yeah, but when she did it it was within the contest of the lines, the scenes, and above all the character of Lwaxana. In Q-Squared, it just so happens to occur to various characters that this Klingon guy's name sounds like "Wharf." And they make a point of it. Over and over again. Takes you right out of the scene(s), and right out of the book.

Odd, I never once found it to be a distraction. Infact I never really thought about it outside context until now
and I don't see what everyone is whining about. Oh well. Speaking of I need to read that again...

Ah well, each to their own, of course. It bothered me, but then I'm weird. Glad you didn't have that problem! :)

I'm not willing to pay the shipping charges.

How about ordering through a bookshop then? And where in the UK are you?

Right outside of London. I've never actually considered trying that; my local bookshops have never been that great with Trek books, so I usually fulfil my ST needs over the internet.

Although all three of my local Waterstones have a very small amount of Trek and the indy bookshop in town dosn't have any, I can order a Trek book from any of them with out any trouble. I'm not sure what the Libraries are like in the Home Counties area, but you could see if they are in the system at all.

Also, if you're not far from London, if you've heard of Forbidden Planet on Shaftsbury Avenue last time I was in there, they had a massive range of Trek novels.

They don't have to be "great with Star Trek", they just have to be good at customer service, and at ordering books by ISBN on their computerized ordering system - which most shops now use. They won't be ordering stock for their shelves, so topic won't come into it. You need a shop happy to do special orders.

IIRC, there were supposed to be two New Frontier releases in 2009. Does anyone know if this is still the case, or if it even was the case at some point?
