TNG's most absurd moments

- The skant

- Pretty much anything Picard says to Ralph Offenhouse in "The Neutral Zone"

- Tasha's drug speech in "Symbiosis"

- Pretty much anything Picard says to Ralph Offenhouse in "The Neutral Zone"

Forgive me, it's been quite a while since I've seen the episode but what did he say that was so absurd. I only remember Picard telling him there is no money in the future.

It has more to do with how Picard talked to him, as if he was a barbaric primitive.

Well if an American from 200 years ago was transported into the present, we would probably think some of his behavior was pretty barbaric.

^ But if we spoke to such a person, most of us wouldn't treat them as rudely as Picard treated Offenhouse.

Sure we would. Some obnoxious guy from the 18th century who sees blacks as slaves and treated women as objects would get on your nerves pretty fast.

^ Offenhouse was not quite down to that level. He didn't deserve the treatment he got.

To be concerned with money is not anywhere as offensive as slavery or sexism.

That being said, I find it comforting that Offenhouse was able to start a new life:

He is now Secretary of Commerce for the Federation

Geordi, upon seeing Wesley age 10 years in Hide & Q saying "Hey Wes, not bad!" <shudder!>[/QUOTE]

I get the heebie jeebies every time I see that scene. And the way Levar Burton delivers that line makes it even worse.:barf:

Of course it is. See how many lives are totally ruined in the financial crisis. And what's the reason for kidnappings and human trafficking? Why are there wars for oil and why is it taking so long to get renewable energy to run? It's all about money and greed.

We're just not mature enough yet to realize that.

The most important thing is that they elimated greed. That's the message. Don't get too worked up in details about how their currency and economy might look like, that's the wrong way of looking at it. It's about that people are no longer concerned with their greed. And that multiplies the quality of everyone's lives a gazillion times. Offenhouse is greed on feet.

Are you kidding? The guy wakes up 300 years in the future and stubbornly tries to act like he's still in the 1980s. "My accoutnants are still in business! Get me the Wall Street Journal! I want to know what's happening! I don't care about the way you do things! I want things my way!"

He was acting like a little brat.

The whole episode of Encounter at Farpoint is cringe-worthy. It's a wonder TNG wasn't cancelled then and there.

Riker being the moron bringing an addictive game on board. He should Have been fired as first officer right there.

The Pegasus, a highly classified, cloak-capable warship, a ship the Romulans fear its very existance will be the end of their empire...being an Oberth Class ship??

Riker and his dad dressing up in BMX wear, and whacking the crap out of each other.

Dr Pulaski being Riker's dad's booty call.

Wesley, and every time he has that goofy grin.

Guinan and her Kung Fu pose, when she first encounters Q.

The Game.

No, I mean, military officers aren't allowed to play video games? Don't tell the official Korean Air Force StarCraft team that.

Data being willing to abort the Enterprise's emerging intelligence, when only a season earlier he was willing to sacrifice Picard & Laforge to protect similarly developing artificial lifeforms from merely being exploited

"Homeward" & Starfleet's asinine interpretation of the Prime Directive that includes turning a blind eye to the extinction of an intelligent species. Surely that directive's intent is merely to prevent corruption of a species' natural development. So, what's the point of that, if the damn species is going to be obliterated? Is intelligent life so commonplace that you're willing to let it die just because you're worried you'll pollute it? Any chance is better than no chance, douchebags

You beat me to it Jarod.

Seconded. :bolian:
