TNG's blandest episodes

Pretty much all of season 1 and 2. Shades of Grey is the blandest though.
Every Troi episode is utterly monotonous. As is her character in general.

The one where Troi had all these scenes floating around with a wire up her butt yelling "where are you?"

The first two seconds are many things. Though there's a lot of good in them, they can be atrocious, interminable, poorly written, abysmally acted, embarrasingly scored. But they were never bland.

All that happened in two seconds?

The first episode that comes to mind is "Emergence"--the only Trek episode I wasn't able to sit all the way through the first time.

Other than that...

"A Matter of Perspective"
"Hollow Pursuits"

Any of the episodes involving child centered plots:
Hero Worship
The Bonding
Imaginary Friend
Cost of Living

I whole heartedly agree. I'd also add "When The Bough Breaks" and "Suddenly human" to that list of rotten kids episodes

Like it or not, I don't see how an episode where crew members are recreated as the Three Musketeers and the Goddess of Empathy on the holodeck can be called bland.

For me it has to be 'The materpiece society'. It takes the word bland to another level. Bland acting, bland storyline, bland characters, bland sets. I'd rather watch 'Shades of Gray' again.

I hate to be a troll, but this is one of those questions best asked and answered in the negative: which episodes weren't bland? There are about 15 that qualify.

I was happy to see someone list "The Inner Light," TNG's most overrated hour. (TOS's is "City on the Edge of Forever" and, even so, that episode is great, just not the greatest. "The Inner Light" is a snore.)

Surprised not to see Lessons on here. If I ever see that again, I might die of boredom.

I guess The Masterpiece Society was pretty damn boring. And I did not like Frame of Mind at all, though I don't know if that was due to blandness or not. I just didn't like it.

Wow, I loved "We'll always have Paris" because of the cool sci-fi "our universe is getting messed up by another one ripping into ours" angle. I could have done without the Picard /babe of the week stuff though.

Lessons I enjoyed since I too am a pianist, so it was enjoyable watching the piano stuff in the episode, although that "rollout carpet" piano is just ludicrous.

I guess the question is "blandest" and not necessarily the most "Horrible" ones.

Hmm...All the Lwaxana Troi ones definitely rank up there, and most of the Kid one do also.

The Royale was a great episode, not sure why people don't like this one.

More like "Mama of the week".

hah hah Mama of the week. The actress was pretty hot for a milf I supposed. However she could have done with something decent to wear and not the leftover costumes from "I love Jeannie"

That was actually a double entendre, referring not so much to her age as to the fact that she was Michelle Phillips, best known as one of the singers from a '60s group called The Mamas & the Papas. You could definitely say that she qualified as a 'babe' in her time.

(Don't ask me about the go-go dancers in the bathtubs, I wasn't alive yet. :D)

And it's I Dream of Jeannie. ;)

I find very few TNG to be bland. I personally like Masterpiece Society (just watched it last night!), Inner Light, Lessons (a favorite of mine because it shows Picard is human after all), Emergence, etc.

Shades of Gray is pretty boring. The Outcast is boring.

The blandest (and once again, I can't think of the TITLE--Of course, I'm running on two hours of sleep) for me is the episode in which the Federation and the Ferengi are negotiating for the use of a "stable" wormhole.

An empath is using his abilities to manipulate the negotiations in favor of the Ferengi (whoopie) and of course, the whole episode is pointless because the wormhole is useless anyway.

That's "The Price" from Season 3. I agree that nothing of great interest happens in the episode. Its only redeeming feature is that it paved the way for a great VOY sequel.

Ohh come on! 'The Price' had one of TNG's single greatest, classic moments - Riker telling that guy off in Ten Forward. There was some great tension in that scene that touched on the theme of Riker's possible complacency, etc. and his relationship with Troi. I realize though that I'm in the minority when I say I really liked that episode.
